Rise Against – Audience Of One Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree This is what I wrote on youtube:
I love this song, but I feel that the video does not do the meaning of the song justice, although I enjoy GWB as a kid. I feel like this song is about the American concept of individualism and the search for our identity, which is represented by every lyric. Hear me out on this interpretation: First four lines: A representation of our childhood dreams. Next two are about our lives in college, then the next two are about the transition from college to the 'real world' The refrain and the bridge both question our reasons for leaving those that cared about us to 'make it on our own.' This is their critique (in my opinion), that we search for our identity in making it in the real world i.e. making finding a job the ONLY priority. Just so we can feel complete, not just to survive. And that's whats represented in the second verse, 9 and 5 (working just to work, no other purpose) and why that's wasted life. The second bridge is the antithesis of the second verse, when one recognizes that relationships are important, However that person's discouraged (emptiness(unfulfilled)) by the other, who ran away. The ending lines before the last chorus show that the individual has lost in his battle, his inside rots, the wheels went on ( we cant turn back from the consequences of our choices). Well that's how I feel, but I may be completely wrong. Wouldn't be the first time
