I think this song is directed to the rest of The Strokes since they were on their break. This one is kind of assuming the worst of things that the band might not get back together. I'll just put things up in quotes and then what I think it's about. And we're going there fast." ----We're going to break up and it's going to happen soon "Anything to watch? While we are waiting. For this apocalypse." ----What else is there to do before we break up? It's more important to be nice, I guess than being wise." ----It turns out it's not about who's more popular or who's right, we just gotta be nice to eachother. I think this song is and isn't what some of you have mentioned. But for the deeper meaning, I know that Julian does write alot of lyrics that kind of reflect whats going on in his life/with the strokes. That being said, here's what I think the song is REALLY about... In short, Red Light is kind of like Julian talking to the rest of the band. Kind of letting them know that he still cares for them and doesn't want anything bad to happen between them despite some of the issues they've been having.
