I remember listening to this in the 80's, and somehow I heard that St Vitus Dance is in reference to the involuntary muscle spasms that occur when you're electrocuted. Those were the pre-google days, and I can't find any reference to this now but on this site http://www.homeopathycenter.org/remedy/electricitas Makes sense with the references to electronics, but can't escape the photography references (hot shoe, cordless flash, etc). I wonder if someone shocked himself shooting something. |

| Agreed, my fave bauhaus song. Just heard this album for the first time in about 20 years (not that anyone cares) and it floored me anew. How they set the standard for goth! I can see the image of iron environments as a post holocaust NYC, twisted metal and "fleas the size of rats sucked on rats the size of cats", and the labored breathing of trying to survive while trudging through the mire... much like life. Something absolutely alien here, with nonsense lyrics phrased just for the emotions they evoke. | |

| one more comment on the "keyboard" thing... Daniel played with an ebow, so he probably used it here. And tons of verb n delay. I don't see it possible to use drumstick as a bow, maybe as a slide on the fretboard, but that would interfere with the strings resonating... anyway, I think their lyrics are nonsensical written around the feelings they evoke, just like Tones on Tail. | |

My favorite by ToT I think. I remember Peter Murphy had a falling out with the band members, and it seems clear that this song is about Peter. Amazing song. I imagine cold, damp hillsides, infinite sea of dark, windswept clouds... The breeze picks up... Not raining, but it will at any minute. I love the feel of this song. Lyrics are pretty vague but emotional, like the rest of the album. I sense this is a long distance relationship that may or may not end well, maybe an emotional affair of sorts. Communication over that distance suffers, and there cannot be the connection that he desires. So maybe he bought a ticket to go see her, and she decided not to follow through? The guitars add to the emotional turmoil within of what should and shouldn't be, and the final note is so... well, final. "Will she save me?" I absolutely love the 154 album, it is Wire's best. What a composition! |
