| Citizen Cope – Nite Becomes Day Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Things have been getting real heavy these days The media the system the people chasing pay Somebody's got a rifle he won't turn the other cheek Now its his turn (All people care about is money, the media and the system sucks. But hold up! Someone has a gun, and he's not willing to "turn the other cheek" as in calm down. He's compelled to solve his problems with violence. Things have been getting real hectic these days An eye for an eye A spade is a spade They're shooting him down and he's running away That was their turn (He's saying that there is so much violence in the world it's crazy. That people always have to "get even" thus, the "eye for an eye" phrase. The man with the rifle had "his turn" to be violent; now the police have "their turn" to shoot him down in retaliation.) I believe in The same thing that makes the night become day Tide and the water Sons and the daughters Can't hide it can't fight it Love I'm a say it again (I mean, love could be a symbol for God, since I don't think love can make the night become day. So yeah, I'ma go with God. Love=God.) It's the same thing that makes the moonlight Meet up with the sunlight Can't fight it can't buy it Love... I'm a say it again (Once again, Love=God. He's talking about peace. He wants everyone to chill the f#ck out and relax; love each other. I swear, if everyone was as laid back as Cope, there would be war AT ALL.) When cut deep the same blood we bleed We're not immune to addiction or disease Got violent deaths in our family trees Now it's our turn (We're all the friggin' same. When we're cut, we bled the same red blood, we all can get addicted to something, and we're not immune to tragedy (violent deaths). It seems like a TAKE THAT to racists, sexists, and anyone else who discriminates. The "now it's our turn" is pretty much saying we're going to go through the same cycle of ignorance of our ancestors. Clever, Cope.) Things have been seeming real ready these days From the North to the South to the East to the West Happiness will you put it to your chest When it's your turn (At the end, Cope is pretty much asking the LISTENER not to be violent. "Happiness, will you put it in your chest when it's your turn?" Will you put love/god in your heart when ever you have a "turn" or opportunity to be violent. Will you turn the other cheek?" Classic Cope. It's such a shame that people here ignore some of his more lyrically brilliant songs. I just figured this song out TODAY, and I've been listening to it for close to a year. Yeah, it sounds good, but Cope is actually one of those few artists that incorporate a meaning into their songs. Appreciate. |

I like how people ignore some of Cope's best songs, and instead would rather comment on the commercially successful ones like Sideways and Son's Gonna Rise. This is just as good as either of them. 107 Degrees is pretty much about a tempting woman, who's implied to be somewhat whorish. She's wanted by pretty much the entire community, and as it's suggested that all of them have have had her at some point, which is implied by the "your pain is killing me". |

| Citizen Cope – I Couldn't Explain Why Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I can't believe I posted without making sure I was finished. Smh. In a couple of hours The morning is comin' And I'm hittin' the door runnin' The gasoline is burnin' And I couldn't explain why (Sometimes you do things just because. Much like Cope's music. He does it just because.) |

In a couple of hours The morning is comin' And I'm hittin' the door runnin' The gasoline is burnin' And I couldn't explain why (Sometimes The message that I've been given Could have us drown in the river and Still I gotta deliver it and I, I couldn't explain why (The message Cope has is dangerous, but he's still compelled to deliver the message.) I hold a couple of grudges I could've had a couple of touches If I hadn't had a couple of crutches And I couldn't explain why (I will have to go with a previous answer to this. He holds a couple of grudges against people. The "couple of touches/couple of crutches" bit may refer to a football injury; which may be the reason he has a couple of grudges. This can be an example of the things that people usually mope about in life. The "touches/crutches" don't technically have to refer to football, they're pretty much a metaphor for the ups and downs in life.) World keeps turnin' The sun keeps burnin' For all to learn what Heavens only knows Why do some Get taken too young All these answers That heaven only knows (This is the beautiful meaning of the song. With is "things happen, and I can't explain why. Only God and the Heavens knows. We'll eventually know when we reach Heaven.") |
