| All Get Out – Subject To Change Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| What I'm getting from this song is about a relationship - perhaps a marriage - that is falling apart and of which the narrator desperately wants out. The first stanza seems indicative of an argument. In the next stanza, the narrator talks about how he can see how long he's been in the relationship, and how it has had its moments, but nothing seems to change. The third stanza has the narrator speaking of how they've been driving fast for a long time (driving fast is often a metaphor used for recklessly engaging in a relationship without ever stopping or slowing down to examine or fix problems) and how when he thinks it's finally going to break, it just bends instead (as in, when things finally get bad enough that the thinks it's finally going to end, it doesn't, but rather continues as it has been). Finally, the narrator leaves, using the excuse that he has a brother he's never met whom he would like to, so he's going to do so. | |

It looks like rbellessa's lyrics are right (or at least a lot closer than what was initially posted). As for the meaning, I interpret it as a plea from the narrator to someone else to admit and get help for an addiction, most likely alcoholism. The imagery is present throughout the song to support this, including: Being able to "smell the evening" (the scent of alcohol from that night's drinking) "The first step is always true. That's my first suggestion to you." (the first step to overcoming a problem is to admit that there is a problem) "The shivers and shakes your body makes aren’t going to go away. That's the price you pay for the games you’ve played, and nothing's going to change." (Withdrawal from an addiction causes all sorts of effects, such as shaking and shivering) "Well try to get dressed and you put your shoes on. Let's get to the car. Let's make this right. The drive is short, but it sure feels long, but that's just how it is when you're leaving home. This isn't the end of your life. It's more like a pause and soon as a start. You'll be back on your feet again in no time." (The narrator finally gets fed up enough and either takes the addict to a rehabilitation clinic or is taking her somewhere else to stay, away from their children) "I tried convincing God to change you. We had it out, and he said, 'No.' Said a choice is a choice, and he says you made it." (The narrator makes a plea to God to fix the addict, but receives a response saying that it was her choice to be what she has become) |

| The Bravery – Jack-O'-Lantern Man Lyrics | 13 years ago |

To put it simply, this song's about a bad shroom trip. Psilocybin is the active chemical in psychedelic mushrooms. It sounds like the narrator had a traumatizing trip when he was seventeen, in which he hallucinated the "Jack-o-lantern man." What this man represents isn't clear, but the hatred the narrator feels for him, perhaps because of how the trip affected the narrator, is definitely clear. |

| The Bravery – Song For Jacob Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I interpret this song as being about someone who is addicted to drugs (first three stanzas), kicking the addiction and becoming a born again Christian (next four stanzas), then - if you read the chronology of the song literally - relapsing into the addiction. The first three stanzas sound exactly like someone being high on methamphetamine (in addition to the namedropping of amphetamine): not sleeping, flushed face, drooling, seeing bright and brilliant lights/colors. After this, the song's lyrics take on a lot of Judeo-Christian symbolism before returning to "As long as I live and there's blood in my arms, this day is brighter than bombs." "Blood in my arms" is a rather unusual metaphor for being alive, but makes perfect sense in the terms of shooting methamphetamine. |

| Lostprophets – Last Train Home Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Here are the lyrics for the demo/original version of the song. It has a completely different tone and I thought others might be interested in comparing the two versions. One, two, three, yeah! To every broken heart in here Time was once a part but now it's disappeared She told me that it's all part of the choices that you make, yeah Still it feels as though this whole place is too fake But there's still tomorrow Forget the sorrow And I can be on the last train home Watch it pass the day As it fades away No more time to care No more time to stay alive Kill the soul Wherever I will go I'll be with you The times we are apart I'll be there too I never thought that I would be the last to see you leave I wonder if you're listening Picking up on the signals send down from within I know it seems like I don't really know what's going on Time and time again it seems like everything is wrong in here But there's still tomorrow Forgive the sorrow And I can be on the last train home Watch it pass the day As it fades away No more time to care No more time to stay alive Kill the soul Wherever I will go I'll be with you The times we are apart I'll be there too I never thought that I would be the last to see you leave Give it one last hope Give it one last hope Give it one last hope Give it one last hope Kill the soul Wherever I will go I'll be with you The times we are apart I'll be there too I never thought that I would be the last to see you leave Wherever I will go I'll be with you The times we are apart I'll be there too I never thought that I would be the last to see you leave I never thought that I would be the last to see you leave That I would be the last to see you leave |
