Placebo – Protect Me From What I Want Lyrics 12 years ago
I can't believe how this song is apparently so difficult to interpretate. isn't it obvious that it's about depression??

"the disease of the age" --> is an often used description for depression.

"Corporate America wakes" --> one of the main reasons for the high number of depressed is the performance culture: work and work and spend.

"Coffee republic in case"--> How we need to pull ourselves through the days.

"We open the latch on the gate
Of the hole that we call our home" --> We're so materialistic, but in the end it means nothing.

"Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me" ---> as a fellow depressed person I know that we often 'seek' to stay depressed, because it's the only thing that we're sure of. Our routine behaviour keeps us in the depression e.i. depressing music, sitting alone at home and wasting our days... Psychiatrists will confirm this.

"Maybe we're victims of fate
Remember when we'd celebrate
We'd drink and get high until late
And now we're all alone

Wedding bells ain't gonna chime
With both of us guilty of crime
And both of us sentenced to time
And now we're all alone" --> These last two verses are the parts where a depressed person feels sorry for himself and has absolutely no faith that things will turn out alright, like they used to be. The 'wedding bells' and 'committed crime' are dysfemisms of the things the depressed person did wrong. Note: people who are depressed tend to think less of themselves and blow up every little mistake they've made to gargantic proportions, they feel like they don't deserve to be happy.

Hope I cleared this up for all of you.

Carissa's Wierd – Fluorescent Lights Lyrics 14 years ago
I've changed the lyrics a bit. Your version is good but also has some flaws. =)
It helps when using a pair of high-end headphones to understand what he's saying.
I think this is pretty much all correct.

I guess Ill make it clear now,
we all hate ourselves,
Sleep is all the fun I had and I need more now
Ill drive myself insane before
Ive driven everyone away

And I could walk from one end of this bar
til I hit the floor,
And I could walk from one end of this town
to the other
...never go anywhere

The only reason people talk to each others
cause they're gonna say something that is smarter than the other one said,
everyones fuckin crazy
people never listen to what you have to say
cause theyre so damn scared that you're smarter than them one day,
everyones fuckin crazy
But I, I hate these fluorescent lights

And I could walk from one end of this bar
until I hit the floor
and I could walk from one end of this town
to the other,
I won't go anywhere at all
I could talk to you and you could talk to me
I won't say
anything at all
I could talk to you and you could look at me
I wont say,
anything at all

The only reason people talk to each others
cause they're gonna say something that is smarter than the other one said,
everyones fuckin crazy
People never listen to what you'll have to say
cause theyre so damn scared youll be smarter than them one day,
everyones fuckin crazy
But I just hate these fluorescent lights

Misery Signals – Mirrors Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is obviously about a person who changed him, who reached out to him, who let him see he can make the choices he wants for his life.
This paragraphe explains it all:
"Violent, the life you drove through me
Through this wall of glass
Piercing rays fueled the radiance in your eyes
Pulling me closer, defying all reason"

MEANING: She forced him into his life,(because he doesn't let people into it that easy)
through his protection shield to hide his insecurity (but it didn't need much to be broken)
When she saw his inner self it made she love him
The love she felt for him made him love her as well and now he thought impulsive to reach out to her, without the considered steps he previously took in his life (defying all reason)
