| And I do believe the correct lyric is "spineless heart" not "mindless heart" | |

| I was totally thinking that same thing. i knew it sounded familiar and opened up my bible and there is was! This is such a sad song and I pray for him that one day he will sing the song of victory in Jesus christ! | |

| Totally agree with the both of you. I am glad I am not the only one who sees such truths in Mumfords songs. This song is plainly about salvation. | |

@mwalimu I to agree. many of their songs are saturated with Christian overtones. The only thing that I interpreted differently were the few final verses. "Stars hide your fires, These here are my desires" "And I won't give them up to you this time around And so, I’ll be found with my stake stuck in this ground Marking the territory of this newly impassioned soul" "But you, you’ve gone too far this time You have neither reason nor rhyme With which to take this soul that is so rightfully mine" I believed this to be a change in who he is speaking to. I felt as though we was addressing Satan and telling him that he has staked his ground in God and His soul is newly impassioned for the creator. He seeks to not give into His fleshly (or sinful) desires. The stars that hide the fires is God (whom we often associate with looking up at the stars) keeping him from say, the fires of hell. Maybe temptation has taken him farther than he wanted to go and and he wants to be rid of that so he tells satan that he has no right to take his soul. That was my interpretation but I can see how yours also applies. But Itoo feel the say as Mom2eight. I look forward to future albums to see their growth and further revelations into who these young men are. |
