this is is about being you, being an individual, doing the things in life that you want to do becuase you believe in them and have a passion for them, not because society tells you that you should do something. "If you're loved by someone you're never rejected" simply, if you love yourself, you're never rejected, do what makes you happy and what you love. "And I'm frightened by those who don't see it" refers to the weak in society who dont have enough perspective in life to realize that others all around them are pushing their beliefs on them. and thus creating puppets of society "When nothing is owed, deserved or expected" the release and freedom from narcissism, no ego and no feeling of entitlement or elitism |

i feel like this is about someone who has so far lost touch with reality that they are living behind lies and deceit that they themselves have created. The "makeup" is metaphor for everything they hide behind "I tried to find a quiet place that we could go To help you make decisions But I didn't find it easy to tell them apart With double vision" i feel like its a song about the struggles of reaching out and trying to help a friend, and how hard it is to help someone until that person can be honest with themselves, and once someone is honest with themselves, "Now you know who you are again" |

So compelling to me that these two lines are right after eachother in the song.. "As a kid I never understood what I observed, Some of it was strange but most of it disturbing" "Always in detention for the lack of my attention, You can call it deficit, really I just didn't listen" In one sense he is saying he never fully grasped all the shit going on around him while growing up, but on the other hand he says ya i was fully aware of what was going on but i just let them call it whatever they wanted to. Allowing society to label him as they pleased but he never cared because all he cared about was trying to survive. Point is, kids are much smarter and aware than people give them credit for and until we give them their individuality and push them to strive at their passions, the kids dont stand a chance. |
