Song's about an incomplete idea insisting upon itself, thus creating a seemingly endless paradox, while knowing the answer to all (doubtfully)and being inable to affect it or change it only by ones insistent choices derived from hate and inability to be 'open-minded' to love. Now, ill try my best to help you see the truth in my thought. Ok, so the opening two dialogue lines are basically explaining how corporations (anything as a whole body) can not work if they only care about what they already get(money).Which, if you think about it, is exactly their view on themselves 'self-insistence' is their transit of profit. 'Why are we here again' implies directly that something is missing,thus,resulting in a constant paradox of hate and lies. The line immediately after that explains this (once articulated anyway).'nothing thrilling me too much yeah' shows how layne sees the repetition in corporations, their inability to change.'so close' insists that they know but are still blind to their success(just barely,or missing a base). Now the next half of the song is the implication of change, instead of saying 'why' to his current state he admits he almost fucked up 'MAAAAAN I nearly snapped my twig, then again i nearly snapped a few of you' ability to change (not snapping your twig) and realizing you're not the only one with a twig( life ). Goes on with 'thinking highly' , this means thinking highly of all ,considering all to see what matters now. Which, in Laynes' terms, is preventing everyone from snapping their twig(ending all life,only through hate). FUCKING METALLICA METALLICA!!! YES FUCKIN AYE !! SO of course youll all now the meaning of this song is in . i think the first or second line. Oh third. It's about libert or death, 'don't tread on me' is basically Hetfield saying FUCK OFF to someone, 'never begins it, never,but once engaged' prolly hast to be bout a female never is as if someone were saying no to an idea it repeats cuz someone has a problem with it as in 'never?' like 'yah fucking never fag'(jk) then 'but once engaged' shows how this is a person who wont STFU about the topic even if you were joking about its mention in the first place.(Feel free to tell me if im over-ANALyzing anything dudeskies)The chorus is actually just the same idea as this- nothing going to stop a persons negativity so, you must fight and to bad to live good. Next stanza w/ 'love it or leave it' again someones negativity to an idea ( any kind ) and this 'she -snake' i guess, having a problem with a whiner complaining the rest of that stanza is describing this 'quick tongue' how its always watching and powerful. Goes on with chorus again. Pretty much just about enjoying the things and life to avoid being negative, because there may be a METALLI-snake like character around, just to 'adjust' your ill perception on life. |

ALright so bassically this song is about how people do bad things to others in this case it is Layne but he also goes to say 'and because so, once was mine,- i walk this maze alone' thats proof because it shows how he once dwelled in hate as far as his actions , realized his mistakes and regrets them.The parts of loneliness and black being all he feels are the interactions he had with these others, he hurt them and is sorry, but they are unforgiving and continue to treat him that way, unable to see his love and care for them.'surrounded by empty souls,artificial courage used' this line shows how they are empty in the sense that they truly and honestly have nothing in the end as long as they act the way the continued to(hateful)artificial courage is basically an unoriginal reason to hate they act as though hate brings courage or strength ,but honestly,all hate can do is slowly destroy a society or even world over time ,making it most tiring and painful.Layne was a genius he just felt that he had no one to care for him even though he was dying as slow as a hate-filled world, and its from people who judge that hate doth pour friends. The whole chaos and hate bits are laynes view of how these peeps must feel on the inside hence the song name its about those that hate not only himself. And finally the chorus lines are about them as well only how they see them judge themselves over time when no one is left and how they are below themselves bcuz they are now disgusted with themselves for who they are, then how in the end itll lead to suicide or self-degradation. Really fantastic song though hope yall like my thoughts on it. Hilarious how AiC always gets labled junky tunes or as contrived and derived purely and solely on drugs!!come on now!! there is reference but not redundancy, puh-fucking-lease, he was a genius compared to most living wastes, he was man enough to admit his mistakes/imperfections in his own music so listen to what the song REALLY says and -stop judging-('only god can play god,those who try to play, will soon say..')This song appears to be about people speaking for you in place of you (or about you,rumours, trashtalk). First two lines show how layne is a forgiving person,but how a person insistently attempts to point out flaws in him because of their own guilt. 'you insult me, in my home-youre forgivin this tim' 'things go well youre eyes dilate you shake and im high?' Obviously hes getting high with a friend who reflects themself on him because they shake and then state layne as the affected one. This next line (very meaningful if u can understand what it means) 'Look in my eyes DEEP and watch the clouds change with time'('dont idolize a being for simply being'-me) This is Layne explaining how this person shouldnt reflect his guilt to others with lies and gossip about others. how always watching his(laynes)every move wont do anything but change the time gradually,then the milk carton reference is to show how none would worry about him when he needed help, or attention. The next stanza goes on about corp. ignorance-this stanza is about someone reconnecting with himand how he sees them going down the same path he warned to stray from. The 'by the ways' are to show that hes told them numerous times(to change from ignorant lack of care) but still they refuse to see his point.Endless ignorance refers to earlier stanzas 'look in my eyes deep..' because he knows how to be while their ignorance simply redirects them to something new in life worth congrats hence why its said.'call me up congratulations aint the real why'.The chorus is about this flaw they have to layne, how they see an opportunity to gain but their stained character brings them ruinand allows for others to TAKE from them what they want. in this case it may be an actual reference to a situation layne was in such as: a long forgotten friend shows up and is in music bizz then interviews layne, seeing dicolored skin and having experience with heroin as well he would then judge laynefor that because of his own guilt over this drug many years ago, how layne is caught off guard and must reveal the time of his next album, rehab or something unclear.Then goes on about how this same music bizz boi is down in the gutters, reminiscing in their past together, layne advises to move on by saying to gain revenge on those who defamed him. (Which would be by living happily cuz its simply the greatest revenge to any enemy)Of course there is sort of a problem this person hurt their new advisor(layne) so now layne has forgiven and helped him at least twice with the next chorus as proof of how his friend still betrays him on and on.The ending backround talk is laynes most deepest thoughts on this persons inner works(which are clearly bad in nature)explaining how there are others like this everywhere all equally f'd up and how their fixation with their own imperfections(and others) keeps them from properly communicating with others because its revealed in their talk at some point.Then whoever is trying to forget the imperfect things (layne in this case)is affected by the person exposing all of them so greatly that they too soon succumb to acknowledging flaws helplessly and hopelessly and how this is a constant cycle globally and he knows it. So basically this masterpiece is about the media, or people acting as media, -watching any one persons move and unrelentingly judging till they break under pressure and lose sight of who they are.This song speaks great volumes of truth that everyone should learn from because no one likes to feel judged by any and everyone over something so juvenile such as drug addiction(in staley's case) "But majority rule, so ignorant people will continue to be and live unable to see their own image in the mirror."_-_ME |

it begins by explaining how 'friendship' is abused by people who are a-holes, because they would have to not value friendship to defile their own 'friends', also how this had happened to Layne.(alone....)'Sounds of silence" often soothe, because hes all alone 'popping' which is better than being belittled by peers his sort of escape from all the bull, things shift as his mood goes from sad,down, to high as f'in s- and what occurs during this such as: widening pupils-tends to happen only when youve been 'hit' as i like to say, then rapid brown avoid clear blue because base heroin has to be mixed w/ water and an acid so.. water being blue and heroin being brown its obviously his preparation as well. He asks why it has to be 'this way' which is over as in terms of a friendship, how he is 'confused' as to why it must end for worse.the flowers he talks about are his peers moving on, unaffected as he(outcast usually) he watches all this in fear hence wide eyes.-child sings an unclaimed tune- means originality which is obviosly him,Layne,cuz while they hate and destroy lives he can only love all people.Being a lover and not hater as his peers, his innocence(love) spins a cuccoon(barrier) blocking him from those who hate.but to be socially healthy you must reach out, which would mean conforming to others views while exposing his own which would seem off to his 'friends' as they hate rather than love, he grows to see this spread of hate young which brings him pain for the way others live.Then,again with his constant confusion to why they hate unprovoked. The end of the song f-ing clearly goes to show the situation which the broken friendship occured upon how he(layne) has much to look forward to in life but is held down by needy 'friends' how he cant sleep cuz of em and how helping them (even though they suck) will make them see error in their ways and end their hate,also how he knows they never will stay pure or loving in nature.how they must be responsible for their unconditional love and how he is betrayed once again. His fate is changed because he accepts this person through life who only f's him over then feels hate towards them because what theyve done how he never wants to see this person again, wants to start his life anew. THIS song is to that person that hurt layne and is titled frogs because thats how he felt after the ended friendship he could hardly 'croak' words to anyone being lonely. The end is all fragments with .... dots trailing because this is him rethinking what just happened all stoned which would make one sound tired and sort of frog-like.
