Vashti Bunyan – I'd Like to Walk Around In Your Mind Lyrics 11 years ago
You are absolutely right, she does say "latitude." It's very clear to hear to me. I can't even hear it without the "l" if I try. Though I do like both ways in a lyrical sense.

The Magnetic Fields – A Chicken With Its Head Cut Off Lyrics 12 years ago
I was all, "Hmm, I'm gonna go on songmeanings and see if I can't find some lyrics that describe where I'm at in life right now," because that is the sort of thing I do to comfort myself when shit gets a bit too real. This was the first song I clicked, never having heard/read the lyrics, and holy shit this is IT. Every line epitomizes my life. Thanks Stephen Merritt, I am slowly but surely realizing your brilliance.

The Mountain Goats – Get Lonely Lyrics 12 years ago
These are all of the feelings I like to pretend I don't have when I am feeling lonely or abandoned. But I do. And the line, "Trying to stay strong--spirit willing" feels like a gasp of relief, that one that allows you to breathe when you can hardly do so but also makes you tear up instantly. I don't know if that makes any sense to anyone but me, but damn, this song evokes almost a physiological response from me.

This song is highly underrated.
"Love is light ignited/ And everyone's invited."

Holy hell.

Modest Mouse – Birds vs. Worms Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this is about conflict between two types of people, as well. For me, it seems like a struggle between "Type A" (the bird, "the early bird gets the worm," the achiever) and "Type B" (passive type, less ambitious and often criticized by Type As as possibly being lazy, but just a different, laid-back type of person). For me currently, I feel like "the worm" because I am struggling as a laid-back type of person in a very ambitious environment (really difficult classes in college). I can't seem to keep up and this song sort of explains things well for me. I know it's not specifically about that, but the lyrics fit. Anyway, I love this song in general :)

Band of Skulls – Cold Fame Lyrics 14 years ago
Commenting late, but this song is so beautiful. The lyrics are so perfectly written to achieve the sad, hopeless, directionless feelings that I think it's meant to evoke (it sure does for me). At the same time, there's a glimmer of hope in finding what you're meant to do with your life ("I know my place, but it don't know me"). There's also a little hope in the fact that anyone who is in this position can relate to the song, or to each other--we all have periods of despair when we try to figure out WTF we're doing with our lives, and why, and if it's worth it. I just wish more people I knew realized how beautiful this song is! Again, the lyrics are brilliant, they make me feel so much better when I'm feeling low or lost.

Holy shit... what?! I'm now hearing the end of this song entirely differently. But you're right.

Animal Collective – Who Could Win a Rabbit Lyrics 14 years ago
Sometimes songs are pretty easy to interpret one way, or a few ways, and there don't seem to be many other interpretations that truly work. Like when there are dead giveaways to anyone with a brain that a song is about a certain thing. With more ambiguous lyrics, like these, I like to just interpret it so that it fits with my life, provided enough lyrics support it. So, I just moved away to college as a freshman and I have serious issues with procrastinating, not studying, going out too much, and not being able to focus on work properly. This song is definitely my anthem for right now. "Bad mind let me put on good habits" especially. Other parts just remind me of my current struggle to keep up in the college "world." I know it's not really about that, but it makes me feel better... and all I should be doing besides this is schoolwork, anyway.

Also... I want to paint a picture based around these lyrics. Such good imagery here. Really, most AC songs could inspire awesome visual art (ODDSAC, for example ;))

Though I have a million things to say about what this song may mean, others pretty much summed them up. Such a wonderful song, and I also would like to point out that it's where my username came from :) Anyway, I just wanted to post that I was just reading Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut and read the phrase "babies full of rabies" in it. It instantly reminded me of this song... it's probably unrelated, but I was excited nonetheless. Peace.
