I feel like you guys are looking too deep into the meaning. "It climbs in slowly behind" is just lingering thoughts of doubt in a relationship "you trust your neighbor they'd never suspect what your like, welcome them into your life" meeting that one friend, that is soon to become a very important person in your life. "no one has to know, play back delete and rewind" whatever your doubts are, you don't have to tell anyone, just think about it to yourself and forget about it. basically the beginning half of the song, it's about someone very important in your life. And they slowly drift apart from you somehow. And you want to keep your feelings on the inside and not tell anyone. Then at the climax where he sings "All of your friends are gone" (amazing build up in this song), Is the part where it's supposed to hit you like bricks with the truth. You hide all your feelings, when you just have to admit everything. It's all about loneliness and losing the people you loved. By the end of the song, you can't interpret the meaning. What the lyrics are, are exactly what the song means. all of your friends are gone. |

My interpretation of this song is him being all philosophical by teaching us the valuable things that he's learned in life. And that is, if you want people to understand you, you need to understand them. My Direct Translation: "I will find a different way to say, you're gonna have to change everything you've made." -Just like I'm teaching you that you need to change the way you expose your life, I will change the way I expose my life to you.- "You're going to have to reword every metaphor you've used, so that people who are hearing aren't confused." -This is how you need to change the way you expose your life, try to allow everyone else to understand you.- "If that's the most important thing you do, detail every ounce of pain that you went through. Make sure you leave something down to show the way back." -If you really want them to understand you, make sure they feel the pain of everything you've been through in life. Leave your mark on their mind, so they won't forget what you've taught them.- "Every way you wonder if you're wrong. Inaccurate and imprecise. there is no gift without a price." -Ever think that you made the wrong decisions? were they really wrong? and no matter what you get, you deserve.- "I'm so mistaken, lost my direction. My soul's been shaken." -I'm lost. I'm hurt. I'm moved by so many things I don't understand.- "I will find a different way to go. There's no signs in life to guide you on that road." -I'm not going to follow the wrong direction anymore. If I go down that road, nothing will guide me to where I want to be anyways.- It's like he's teaching us how to move a person by sharing your experiences with someone else. Just like he is singing to us about how he feels, we are moved by his words and experiences. He wants us to do the same for other people. |

Basically, I think this song is about someone who used him. The line "Let's make believe what's at stake here's more than just your reputation." It's like somebody used him to make their self feel or seem like a better person. The line "Are you cutting me out now after crawling inside?" Is him saying, -so you came crawling to me and I accepted you, and now that you're satisfied you're going to leave me?- The rest of the song is more like a slap to whoever it was that used him. And the line "We're offering nothing but the best accomodations, just tell us who you are." It's like he is mocking himself saying -Here I am, come and use me for whatever you need, it doesn''t matter what you do to me and it doesn't matter who you are.- The name of the song is based off of the fact that he was there for someone "holding their hair back" (suggestively while the person was puking after drinking too much) and the person wasn't courteous enough to care for him in the end. This is all just my interpretation. |
