After reading the comment about the SD fires it makes more sense to me now. I reckon he's asking why the burning buildings are a bad thing, maybe they give life to something better, and how rather than being a saddening image he considers the fires pretty to look at. I reckon the part "about sheep tripping over the fence" could refer to him counting sheep, trying to sleep, but the fires are so intense that he can't get it out of his mind and the sheep become a stampede of wild animals. Then the last line, rather than being upset about the fire he's simply calling it an act of chance or fate, and there was nothing to do to stop it. I used to find this song quite depressing to listen to but now having read through the lyrics it feels so different, kinda dreamy. its definitely added a new dimension to the song for me |

I reckon it's gotta do with an ending relationship. He's upset they've broken up but he's tired of the same old bullshit and just wants to try and move on, despite how hard it. Just the lines "All the times before I thought you'd deal that's not the score" really point out he's just trying to deal with it, whereas the other person can't let go. |
