I think this songs is about drugs showing themselves as a fun way out of your problems, as a solution, but in the end they end up taking you to death. |

"Pleasure spiked with pain" is just drugs. It doesn't get any more pleasurable than drugs, but there's all these horrible side effects, both physical and otherwise.
Music is an "aeroplane" to fly away from all that, but then for these guys the pleasure of music was also spiked with pain because music just constantly remindend them of Hillel Slovak. |

Interesting interpretations. I thought the whole song was about Dave himself and the loneliness he was experiencing at the time. The "best friends" parts are meant ironically - you're in a band with two guys, normally they would be your best friends, or close enough, but this time they were complete strangers. The "never mind" part might not be totally disconnected to the album, maybe it was something that was said repeatedly inside of the band and then just became the album's title. Or something. |

I think this is about people who think you have to be almost homeless to be considered "punk" enough. "I've got a floor, apparently that already makes me a rich materialistic asshole, whatever!". Then he shows how he only has simple things of little value. And then they give examples of different types of people to show that what was said previously can be applied to anyone. Everyone has at some point been accused of having had everything on a plate no matter how poor or how hard you've had to work (especially in the punk scene). |

I think the pre-chorus (one day the wind will come up...) is about being rejected by a love interest, and the hopes that later she/he will get back to you only to see you've found someone better, and you'll reject her/him back and have the last laugh. |

I think the last verse might not be about "Bill" actually dying in the street while playing, but about him getting better and better as a musician over the the years, only to end up dying poor and without the recognition he deserved...like so many great musicians who either go on to die poor or give up music in order to survive with more "traditional" types of jobs.
Either way, extremely sad song, and a fantastic song to, with quite unpredictable phrasing and melody. |

Fantastic song, it deserves comments!
The lyrics are pretty clear I guess, just the typical teenager-parents/society relatioship. |

Fuck, fuck and fuck. Since about a year ago I can relate to like every god damn Green Day song. It almost feels like I had some beers with Billie and then he wrote all these songs about the shit that's happening to me. |

There's a Dee Dee live performance where he introduces the song saying "this is dedicated to the fucking Ramones and my ex-wife". So yeah, that was probably the world where everyone had a poison heart. And he did walk right out of it, he left the band, got divorced, and entered rehab, all around the same time.
Joey sometimes changed the lyrics to "helpless Dee Dee gonna walk a drum beat behind" in concerts. |

Yeah, I think here Mike is going about how a lot of schooled musicians never get anywhere while people like himself -an amateur musician who can barely sing and plays only simple stuff on his instrument- are getting to make a living off of music. |

These lyrics strike me as trying to avoid having dreams because they're never fulfilled and make you unhappy. |

If the song was written the day Cobain *died*, then it can't have anything to do with Nirvana because Cobain was found dead three days later, so obviously they didn't know Cobain was dead the day they wrote the song. |

Mark Bowen was one of the guitarists FNM had before Jim Martin. The lyrics give me the feeling of an angry end to a relationship or friendship. |

I also think it's about cheating, but I've also always had another interpretation: someone was hired to do something that no one is supposed to find out, like killing someone, or having sex for money, etc, and (s)he's trying to be cold-blooded about it, but in the end (s)he does feel guilty about it. |
