I read in an interview on Spin.com that it's inspired by the deaths of several people like Adam Yauch of The Beastie Boys, Eddie Willard from Uncle Scratch's Gospel Revival and Australian winemaker Ray Beckwith. |

Vague enough to be about a lot of things yet distinct enough to convey an idea and or theme (as with most of MJK's lyrics).
I think it could apply to sexual appetite or zombies; accompanying Milla in a Resident Evil movie. |

Going out on a limb but if what the events in the verses are part of the narrorator's revenge, everyone believes they are seperate and unrelated incidents. |

I don't think this song is as specific as Jesus or the Iraq crisis. More or less a paradox between the wars in the world and the internal wars within ourselves. |

I can't help but think of Zack Snyder's "Sucker-Punch" movie, the main character trying to find solace in the asylum and she's begging the warden not to bring anymore girls there. |

I see it as a child molesting Priest or an abusive husband who hide behind a righteous mask. |

I love this. I know it is very unlikely about what I imagine it to be about which is a very twisted version of the song.
I think about a kidnapper/rapist/maniac who has someone captive and in their own sick and twisted way is trying to comfort them and trying conform the captive to a new life with them. The end of the song climax's with "The flood gates are breaking, they're pouring out" as the cops make entry into house. |

I interpret it as mankind's desire to encapsulate life and the environment, that it might be more harmful than helpful by retarding Darwinism. For instance keeping animals in zoo's makes takes them out of their natural environment and strays them away from their natural instinct by relying on humans. |

"And even if the saints gave their all
Like lions in the face of a growing crowd
To little and too late, on the day
When all will fall"- Reference to Romans feeding Christians to the lions in the arena.
Chevelle is really one of the most cryptic bands in their lyrics. I love it, yet it frustrates me when I try to connect to the lyrics. |

I think it's about the seduction and addiction to something harmful, whether it be drugs or a person etc.
I love the obvious reference to Alice In Wonderland/Through The Looking Glass. |
