First time to face input in this site but felt compelled to share this story. First heard of Elbow via this song in 2008. Coming home from work after a hard day in the month of May this song went straight to my own head like the first cigarette of the day. I had two little ones and was so happy to be a dad but also grieving the hardship this had been on my relationship with my wife. It had been just us for 13 years and now we had to share our lives with our kids. I missed her deeply. We used to travel all over the world together when we were without kids and care free. It had been 5 years ago in May when we were hugging the shore of Spain spending long days sleeping in and laying out on the pebbled beach. Yes, it was 3000 miles away. I know this means something to Guy and to you all but for me it is much more personal. When Guy sings "and it's you and it's May and we're sleeping through the day and it's five years ago and three thousand miles away" I personally am the song it sings. This song's tentacles have gripped me and have yet to let go. This has since set me on the path to make elbow one of my favorite bands of all time. My thanks to the good gifts of this band and Guy to set a soundtrack to lives they have not known. |
