This song always reminded me of something else, and you helped me realize what it was, so thank you for that, but yeah, no you wouldn't be alone in that association at all. |

I think it's "you were playing doctor with your door unlocked, kissing on your cousin and you both got caught" and then "this is how the cleft was formed". |

I always saw this song as a couple trying to cope and find solace in each other during a war or the apocalypse. "I'll be with you behind the couch when they come", 'they' always seemed like soldiers to me. And why else would you be behind the couch but to hide? And all the "stay inside til somebody finds us, do whatever the TV tells us" makes me think of warnings that the news would give you, telling you to stay inside and keep a low profile etc. I don't know. That's just what I think. |

| The Decemberists – This Is Why We Fight Lyrics

I always assumed it was sort of analyzing the human race and saying that no matter what we're always going to fight each other; it's an inevitability in our species. World peace won't ever really exist as we imagine it, because it's impossible to live in perfect harmony. |

| Regina Spektor – A Cannon Lyrics

Personally I think this is one of her more innocent songs. A girl who is a dreamer and decided to leave it all behind and go somewhere on a boat. The letter is who she's left, whether it be her family or what have you, hoping she hasn't upset anyone by leaving so abruptly. No one understands her, so she's leaving, going somewhere where no one knows her and she can be anyone she wants. That's all, in my opinion. :) |

| Wilco – Jesus, Etc. Lyrics

This song was originally called "Jesus Don't Cry" But after they did a demo recording of it someone wrote simply "Jesus, Etc" on the CD and it stuck.
Just a fun fact. |

I feel like this song is about a woman who loved the biblical character Samson before Delilah even came around, and no one ever knew about her. |
