I really love this song, I know I probably wont look at it the same way as anyone else but really it hits something in me, and I'm glad its got such simple lines and makes such an impact. I know there are many ways to interpret any lyrics but in my head I almost imagined some kind of motion picture. A boy/man who has grown to become mentally ill from depression, "tonight we'll enjoy the time we had but in the morning i'll leave before you wake" I viewed that as he is leaving to get help in the morning, and wont be home again until he feels better. I don't think of it as he is sleeping next to someone, because he doesn't seem to depict a lover in the song. The lines "No more living alone, no more running away" he's more of talking about in his head, he's done running away from his mental illness and living alone in it. "focus your thoughts, breath deeply and make it through the dark" This is a type of advice he is giving himself and reminding himself to get through the night/day and the rest he has to live. |

I always viewed this as a song focused on coming out of the closet. Being miserable because you're afraid and feel alone. Then saying you need the people you love to comfort you, and the things you love to bring you out of your pit of depression. The lying to yourself, trying to convince yourself you're straight, and then lying to those you love because your afraid of not having acceptance. It could also be about depression, lying, saying you're happy or just fine. And when you finally explain to someone they're upset at how long you've kept it from them. Then you become more miserable knowing you've hurt them in some way, and plea for them to just be there for you because that's what you need most. |
