| Tarja Turunen – Falling Awake Lyrics | 14 years ago |

This probably isn't the intended meaning of the song, but I think one of the things that's great about music is that songs can mean different things to different people... I dealt with a drug addiction for a while, and I'm finally getting through it. Being sober, I feel like I'm waking up from a long drug-induced coma ("Falling awake from the walking sleep"). The moment you realize what you have been doing to your life, and accept the responsibility to overcome it ("In this moment I am just becoming/Liberated from my cell of nothing../Overcome oblivion"). The chorus shows optimism for the future: the addiction is nothing but a bad memory that I have learned from ("And all that remains is the dying memory"). I'm free to start really living my life ("And now I can dive for these dreams I make"). Finally, a pledge to never, ever go back to the addiction ("There is no returning to that emptiness /Loneliness"). Again, I'm sure this wasn't the songwriters' meaning, but that's what the song says to me. |
