I love this song. Reminds me of the old Mayday. The song is about the progression of a failed relationship. In the beginning the singer is thinking about his love, essentially asking her if she still thinks of him and the love they shared but subsequently threw out. He realizes its the end and he reluctantly lets it die, although he still hopes for a bright future (either by himself or with the two of them possibly). "Maybe you can get some sleep" displays his selflessness, he knows he is causing her problems and stress from fighting all the time so he tries to find a positive in the break up, saying she can at least find some peace at night now. "So here's your song It's twisting me I'd give anything To make you scream. And I'll just smile And make-believe I don't feel a thing. It doesn't work for me. Oh well, oh well Guess I'll see you in Hell There's a pretty little picture that's in my head. And I'm starting to dream Changing colors while I sleep Maybe I'm just wasting time..." The immediate aftermath of the break up, he wants her back, badly. He realizes this isn't going to happen so he starts to 'fake it till he makes it' and pretends he doesn't need her or feel anything that won't help him get over the situation. The end of the chorus suggests he is having second thoughts about this though.. "And that was it I had made it clean Just across the street With my new wings. So I'll just fly And hope that I remember the good times (the good times) When it's done. Oh well, oh well I can't live with myself As I'm climbing in your window to get to your bed And I'll be what you need You can call me anything Just as long as we're still friends." Relapse. He finally got to a point where he felt he could move on from her (albeit not very far), even burying the bad memories to highlight the good ones, until he breaks down and regrettably goes back to her (probably for a night fling, he still is looking for love, she's probably looking for attention). Despite how desperate it makes him look, he doesn't care, he loves her and as long as he can make an impact in her life, he doesn't care how he's perceived. "Sit still and listen to the soundtrack (our soundtrack) I'll tell you how I took one straight through the heart And it's not easy to talk about (don't talk about) So we all sing." Self-explanatory. "When she smiles Well it's got nothing to do with me. I'm not the one who sings her to sleep. And I've been talking to God Asking for just a little help with you But it's hopeless." He knows she's moved on, he no longer is the reason for her smile, but he is happy she is at least smiling and happy with her life, even if it is without him. He is asking God to help him move on from her, but its not happening. "It's not the first time But this one really carved it in. Tell your new friends That no one knows you like I do. It's over. I wanna see you again. I wanna feel it again." This isn't the first time he has put everything into a relationship only to have the other side not reciprocate, but this time really hit him deep, deep in his heart. He knew in is heart and soul she was 'the one,' only to have it fall apart. He goes on to say that no matter who she meets and gets involved with, they will never know and love her the way he does, and he wants to feel and show her that again, saying he would "keep you warm, safe in my arms, till Heaven calls, keep holding on..." Absolutely beautiful song. Can't wait 'till Oct. 4th. |

Your interpretation is very insightful and it's what I believe as well, couldn't have put it much better. |

I'm pretty sure he says "I regret never letting you know" instead of "I regret ever letting you go." I'm not 100% on the line but I'm positive he says never |
