| Marina and the Diamonds – The Family Jewels Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I honestly can't believe there are no comments on this song?! it's amazing! This song is so full of emotion. So many of her songs seem to be about her family, but I think this one is the most raw of them all. | |

I'm sorry, I don't want to change the meaning of the song for you, it's great that you can relate to it so well, but I think the meaning is alot deeper than that. Alot. "I'm a cloud drifting by Dripping tears from the sky" "I'm a snail without a shell A leper with a golden bell" ~I think all of these are exaples of how she isn't accepted, she stands out and is different, like a leper- somone with lepprosy, who wore a bell so people knew not to touch them, this is showing how isolated, and different she feels. I don't think the 'tears' the cloud is dropping actually mean she is crying. "I've got nowhere to do I'm a stray cat on the roam" "Choking on a chicken bone For a home sweet, no sweet home" ~This, is her feeling homeless, not physically but emotionally, like a stray cat who you would chuck a chicken bone, which you shouldn't feed to animals because it splinters in their throat. She is being trows the left overs, and using them to survive, she feels like noone cares about her, at least not enought to really give her a home. "For a root, for a leaf, for a branch, for a tree But there's somebody that reminded them of me" ~I love the tree metaphor in this song, she continues it beautifully. When she say the second line here I think she means that everyone has seen someone like her before, she has just reversed how she says it. I think she is saying that everyone has seen someone who is 'rootless, or even are themselves, so they don't give her a home. I'm going to stop there, because I really dont want to ruin your idea of the son. |

I think this song is'nt just about being on the outside of a friendship group, but more about accepting that. I can't really explain it, but that's what I think. Amazing song. Amazing person. |

| Marina and the Diamonds – Mowgli's Road Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I think it's very Jungle Book related, but I think 'Mowgli's road' is a learning curve, because that is basically all Mowgli does, he learns untill he is strong enough and 'wise' enough to take on the tiger ( I do know his name, I just forget how to spell it) Especially 'There's a fork in the road, I do as I am told' Some lines don't fit my thoughts though, so I'm probably wrong, but I think it is just about being taught lessons. But this is Marina we're talking about, of course there's a deeper meaning. And the snake is Ka. Incase you were wondering. |

| Marina and the Diamonds – Are You Satisfied? Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
This song has a huge amount of meaning for me, because I totally agree with it. I think Marina is singing about how she needs her life to be something more than what other people have, she will never be satisfied with an average life, but she is happy to wait for her life to become extraodinary. I think that is the simple analysis, and that is exactly how I feel about life, and that's why I struggle not to cry everytime I hear this song. Another analysis I think I can see is that the song is in two voices, one (presumably Marina) who wants a great, above average life, and another who just sits around withing for things to happen. I think Marina is the one who says lines like 'High achiever, don't you see? Baby, nothing comes for free They say I'm a control freak Driven by a greed to succeed Nobody can stop me' and, definately 'Are you satisfied with an easy ride? Once you cross the line will you be satisfied?' And the other voice, which I think could be another side of Marina, like she is arguing with herself, has lines like 'Sad inside In this life I'm satisfied praying Sad inside In this life I'm satisfied waiting' The second voice is happy to let life unfold, but they still want something amazing to happen, but the first voice wants to make it happen, because she's not satisfied with living like this. I think the second voice is the one who says the 'it's my problem' lines. I absolutely love this song, it really gets me every time, it's basicly my anthem, because I want to decide which voice I am, because right now I'm the second, and I don't like that, and I think that's what the song it about. Just my opinion though, comments welcome. |

| Many, many artist use their names in their songs. Some well known ones- like Miley Cyrus, Pink, and Marina and the diamonds, Arctic Monkeys (not that I'm comparing them at all to miley cryus, just proving a point) | |

| I hadd never thought of it like this before, but now that I have it makes alot of sense. I like this explination, and I think I agree with it. I would never have figured it out by myself though. | |
| Tokyo Police Club – Tessellate Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Because dire times call for dire faces- I think this means that in hard times you need someone else to be in a hard time too, with you. So lovely dancer, call and answer- And this line refers to that too, I think 'lovely dancer' is just a term, not actually refering to a dancer, but I could be wrong. Trade our places in the night We're running barefoot, you and I- This, to me, is saying that both of them are in the same, kind of hurtful situation, together. This also refers back to the sticking with people in hard times. Dead lovers salivate- I don't think this means actual dead lovers, I think it means dead relationships, even though the relationship is over they still crave each other. Broken hearts tessellate tonight- And I think this is a symbolism for broken hearts being mended, fitting back together. And all the kids who cut their knees on that old schoolyard fence Were holding out for posterity and self-defense We beat them down again There's no fun in playing cowboys for pretend We showed them what the backs of our hands is for The divide is clear in the coming year The rich will take the poor This whole verse, I think, is about growing up. It talks about teaching kids to play' cowboys' for real, teaching the how to 'pimp slap' and teaching them that the 'rich' will always have power over the 'poor'. This is the saddest verse in my opinion, because it represents the loss of naivity and being exposed to the world, where hearts are broken and bad things happen everyday. So, in total, I guess this song is about life, if I'm being very general. It is about hearts being broken and mended and growing up and all of that. I don't know quite how to explain it, but that's what it means to me. |
