| Kate Bush – Violin Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
This is a song about the passion inherent in listening to a truly well played instrument. If you've ever sat in a concert hall and listened to a professional play a violin you'll understand the shivers and quivers Kate's singing about here (Paganini's Caprice 01 is good for this particular feeling, I suggest finding it on Youtube and listening through headphones) The speed at which some of those violinists move the bow, it's quite conceivable that they may have the Devil in the bow ;). |

| Kate Bush – Army Dreamers Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
"Our little army boy is coming home from B.F.P.O..." B.F.P.O stands for British Forces Post Office. This line represents how little people actually know about their loved ones lives within the armed forces. He wasn't coming home from a place, he was coming home from a mailing address. This is a subversive song in that it suggests that there is no point in going into the army, as Kate sings: "What a waste". It suggests that the medals won for bravery and valour have no more significance than buttons and bow, and are merely shows of ego. The mother singing in this song has, even in the face of her son's death, a critical view of her child's acheivements and life choices (i.e. entering the army rather than attempting fame through music or politics), instead of being proud of him. |

| Kate Bush – Get Out of My House Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I've always heard this song as a malevolent poltergeist, fighting the intrusion of new tenants. A misanthropist who built the house and lived their entire life in it, and after death is still fighting for privacy and silence. The householder has become the house, transformation has occurred. Changing into a bird equates to the transformation between life and death, changing into the mule underlines the stubbornness of holding onto the life , holding onto the habits of life, and refusing to be seduced by allowing actual life back into the house. | |
