Slipknot – Child of Burning Time Lyrics 14 years ago
Corey's best lyrics are about himself and his personal experiences. He has an uncanny ability to articulate what's going on inside his head and though he seems like an otherwise pretty private person, he opens his heart so completely in his lyrics. Of course, naturally, this new vulnerability in his new songs makes people feel like Slipknot has sold out--which is completely stupid because the band (as a whole) has always written whatever they want. They've grown and changed, and you'd hope that their fans would understand that. But I digress....

I think this song came about at a particularly turbulent time in Corey's relationship with his ex-wife. I think it deals with his alcohol abuse and vices in general. These are themes that come up a few times on this album (i.e. Snuff). I also think that it has to do with him not seeing his kids as much as he wants--in the "Thanks" section of Come What(ever) May he thanks Griffin, Avarice and Angeline, so Avarice is one of his kids. The lyrics read in a completely different way when you know that. The beauty of Corey's lyrics though, is that they're so poetic you can glean whatever you want from them.
