Crowded House – There Goes God Lyrics 14 years ago
The direct interpretation is on the religious issue: the struggle of someone who has lost the faith they were brought up with and is somewhat of an atheist, but still feels a strong attachment to their religion and a guilt for their failure to believe.

I should also point out that the title of the song is a subversion of the band's name. I think that demonstrates the importance of this song.

Crowded House – People Are Like Suns Lyrics 14 years ago
I love the way the modern-day Crowded House turn depressing lyrics around - this song is similar to "Silent House" in that respect. This song starts with "What kind of fool imagines love; With all this going on." About as bleak as you get. It then turns into a song about how everything is temporary, we have no God-given purpose in life.

And then the final verse brings it together: "And we'll go out tonight; Set the town alight." We have to make do with what we have, we have to find happiness where we can and love with each other while we have opportunity. It's not an upbeat song, but it resolves the demons that inspired it.

I don't know what this song means. But it's a beautiful song.

Crowded House – Silent House Lyrics 14 years ago
It's about losing people -probably parents or other close family members, as the band members are of an age where this happens and the opening verse is "These walls; have eyes; Rows of photographs; And faces like mine " - through dementia/altzeimers and that sort of thing.

It's a sad song but not a hopeless one: it's more about fond memories and moving on. My favourite verse is "I will try to connect; All the pieces you've left; I will carry it on; **And let you forget**;"
