I have no what this song is about, as the lyrics are very strange and the meaning schizophrenic and unclear, but it kind of reminds me of The Velvet Underground's "The Murder Mystery." Kevin Drew's voice starts really melodic, orderly and triumphant at the beginning of the song and then kind of fizzles out at the end into chaotic, robotic nonsense-land, and sounds kind of like the guys in the background of the Velvet Underground song. Feist remains who she is. Neat sounding tune, crazy lyrics. |

This is one of my favorites from Forgiveness Rock Record. I like Kevin Drew's character-based songs. Some of the lyrics seem kind of satirically biblical. Does art imitate life, or is it the other way around? |

I like this song. Not sure if these are the official lyrics but it almost sounds like Kim Gordon is saying "Your future is stag" instead of "My future is static" in the spoken word part of the song. Either way the line makes sense for the song I guess. |

I believe that the true meaning of this song is unfathomable that no one would believe me if I wrote the whole thing. Among other things, it's about a person who is being punished by the society of _________ry for having a daughter out of wedlock with a woman of 'questionable character.' They wanted the person to be innocent / virgin for a certain time in history. Killing his innocence (having sex with him) would bring this person back down to earth, clear him of his fake suspected charges, make him mortal, and give him a normal life again. "cue a mortal child by time separation is divine here is a strike beneath your knees" Most adoption laws prevent the father from ever knowing / meeting the child for fear that the child may go to the father for money. If all worked out, the goal would be to have a common law family of three (girlfriend, daughter, father). It's a tragic story. Look for the number 5 in other broken social scene song lyrics. |
