Super fun song! I always enjoy listening and dancing to this :-)
And it really stinks when someone who is not too bright leaves comments on here. No one likes a bully. eww |

No, pbattin is absolutely wrong. The song is about a horrible date he had with a woman who acted like a drunken nightmare. She was the one who acted like a big shot and embarrassed herself by getting plastered and bragging about herself and her 'latest success.' Billy was the gentleman and he was on a date with a total low-class slut. |

Exactly. Lennon's son was trying to say that his generation had so many problems and his lifetime is so difficult compared to Joel's and that the generations before him had it so much easier. Joel was just explaining to Sean that this is nothing new; every generation had its problems. The phrase 'we didn't start the fire' means that Joel's generation didn't cause all the strife and evil that the world has today; there have been problems in this world since the beginning and it has nothing to do with just one particular generation. We didn't start all these problems. We have all suffered through time, just as we have all had our fabulous moments as well. |

Yeah, the child was John Lennon's son. The boy was bitching that life is so much harder for his generation than his father's generation. Joel just pointed out that 'hey, we all had hard times. It's been going on forever. Every generation struggles with its own problems." |

This is a fabulous song! I love it and can listen to it over and over again. However, there are about 10+ mistakes in the lyrics posted on this site. They should really be fixed.
God bless The Stones!! I love you forever! |
