Cake – Waiting Lyrics 14 years ago
It's morbid, but you'll always be waiting for the afterlife, which is probably why an organ and church bells play during the chorus. It doesn't matter what you soak your bread in because you're just passing the time.

Although I'm not sure if this part refers to the waiting or the pretending, "you can do it all the time" because you literally spend your life waiting for it to end. On the other hand, faking a good time at work in the morning paints a completely different image than vengefully waiting to die.

...Or does it?

Cake – Teenage Pregnancy Lyrics 14 years ago
To me, the song represents the 9-month timeline of the pregnancy. It starts out quietly enough, but that distressful minor key is carried through the entire song. Maybe that would shed light on the spoken words near the end.

Cake – Got to Move Lyrics 14 years ago
One reason I like CAKE so much is because the lyrics aren't always from the lead singer's male perspective. The part beginning with "You are mostly on the phone" reflects the age-old neglected wife and cheating husband.

This song could also be about the kind of people who spend their lives running. Whether it's towards or away from something, the stationary person in the relationship eventually realizes.
