i think song illustrates the journey that Simon went through after the death of his mother... the song begins with a really bleak statment of a deep sense loss that he feels can never heal, then he starts to intertwine 'take the pieces and build them skywards' alongside the bleak words to perhaps show how he is now between that dark place and acceptance, like he is having good days and bad days, and then the song ends with the really uplifting words which portray how he may have finally accepted his mothers death and now has left that dark place which he was in....
all in all a really emotional and beautiful song....MON THE BIFF |

this song is so simple yet so beautiful.... for me it perfectly portrays the bitter feelings after a breakup; where one of them moves on because he feels let down by the others lack of effort in the relationship and writes her a note ridden with sarcasm telling her not to worry about it when he is obviously hurt by what she did or didn't do for him.
