Firstly i agree with you that this mans life is in slow motion until she returns to him. He is full of doubts, insecurities and needs constant reassurance due too a undeveloped and negatively influenced self-esteem. This is justified in the chorus where he says "she magnifies the better part of me". I agree with you on the fact that melodies are representing a positive attitude towards the future, although an uncertain one. His world is shaken and this person, I assume female, has entered his life and set it into motion. All logic and structure which are a left brain functions mostly are "out on the wire". She excites and inspires him which allows his more carefree creative and more right brained characteristics express themselves! Due to his his "perilous past" he has a rather pessimistic view of the world and against his better judgement he knows that usually the past is the most reliable predication of the future. When he says he needs her "here" constantly, could be because he feels that he can't be who he wants to be for him but only for her. The photograph could be a symbolism of the visual image he has captured in his mind of how things might of been or desired them to be but his current predicament is not a reflection of his hearts desire...! In summary this song is about doubting others ourselves and our own capabilities. |
