| One of the interpretations I have of this song is that it is about a couple that got engaged but as the wedding day approaches the girl is not sure anymore that it's what she wants (I imagine her telling the guy "I only said it to be kind" [that I'd like to marry you]). They are anxious about what the other people are saying -- "nevermind what people will say" -- but they feel this external pressure to make a decision and "seal their fate" as a couple. | |

Oh, one more thing... "No twirls or skips between her fingertips" in my opinion means that she is not married/in a relationship (she is not twirling and skipping her wedding band -- something that I often see married women do). |

I agree with the interpretation that this song is a personification of the spiritual grace. But what makes this song really interesting is that "Grace" (the human personification) could actually be a prostitute (in my opinion). For example, there is a part that first says: "And when she walks on the street You can hear the strings Grace finds goodness in everything" Then, when this part is repeated it becomes: "When she goes to work You can hear the strings Grace finds beauty in everything" That gives me the idea that she works on the street. Then there is this part: "What once was hurt, what once was friction What left a mark no longer stains Because Grace makes beauty out of ugly things" That could be referring to not only psychological pain but also physical. I find very touching the idea that even a woman in such terrible conditions could see the beauty past the pain in her life and absolve the ugly (in a sense, just like the spiritual grace). |

Wow, good interpretations everyone! I particularly like this song's chorus. It makes me think that sometimes we know what we supposed to do but even then we still feel lost. |
