| Yeah, the first one probably a reference to Sarin gas attacks on Tokyo subways and fears of it happening again, same kind of reference as the box cutters essentially. | |

The "give em coca-cola for their property" line came after "Turn their whole culture to a mockery" and after the bit about giving people a little democracy (the US has often in the past fought with countries with the stated goal of giving them democracy, which he isn't buying). I thought this whole part was in general about American imperialism in other countries -- set up some democracy, help set up American companies in those places to create a consumer culture (e.g., bring Coca-Cola, KFC, McDonalds) like we have, often at the expense of their own cultures. There's also this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Coca-Cola#The_Bigio_family_case A Jewish family owned a factory in Egypt and they licensed it to Coca-Cola. The Egyptian government seized it in the 60s reportedly because they were Jewish. Eventually Egypt decided to sell the lands and facilities, and Coca-Cola bought it without compensating the original family. Not sure if it was a direct reference, doesn't fit exactly, and his references usually fit better. |
