| I agree with Lil Rocka. It's definitely about a ragged relationship. They are married because he says, "With ring in hand you take it out on me." If she doesn't find a way to slow life down and "chill", she's going to drive him away, in his own car. | |

This is a great song, super instrumentation and lyrics. It's about the age old search for pure love. What better metaphor than the Phoenix bird of ancient mythologies around the world. This beautiful bird lives 500-1000 years, builds a nest of twigs then sets itself on fire until there's nothing left but ashes. But from those ashes arises a new bird reborn to live a new life. Its cry is often said to be that of a beautiful song. And this is that! That's the picture of this guy who's burning up when everything falls apart. But he has someone who will be his "Phoenix Burn," and they will find freedom in that fire. Let it burn. |

I am not familiar with this group, but the spiritual references in the song are very strong: "It's empty in the valley of your heart, the sun it slowly rises" seems to be a reference to coming to a knowledge of Christ and walking toward and in the light. The fears and faults are the sins that have been left behind by the death and resurrection of Christ. "I will hold on hope" and not let you choke speaks to our duty as Christians to share our faith with others. "And I'll find strength in pain / And I will change my ways / I'll know my name as it's called again" is the our belief that we grow more in our faith in the valleys than on the mountains and we do change our ways when our hearts are changed and I will know my name when it is called again in eternity. So come out of your cave walking on your hands / And see the world hanging upside down / You can understand dependence / When you know the maker's land (this should be the maker's hand). And when we come out of the darkness of our previous life, the world is hanging upside down and we understand dependence when we know God (The Maker's) hand. The reference to widows and orphans is one of God's call in His word (James 1:27) of religion that is pure and faultless is one of looking after widows and orphans in their distress and not being polluted by the world. And the world does have a siren's call for sure. I chased it for many years before coming out of my cave. I love to hear a song that has some spiritual substance to it. Great lyrics. I'm just sayin'. |
