Although there are many opinions regarding what this song means, the bottom line is, The Major is hotter than Georgia asphalt and if she were a real person, I'd be her stalker, for sure.... |

I'm having trouble with this song. Although I'm not sure what the singer is trying to say, I think this song is about a man, stranded with nothing but a bible and a notion that God has abandoned him. In this, he realizes that atonement isn't about being forgiven, or even about getting into heaven, but rather, it's about fixing those things you've hurt or destroyed in your past while here on earth. In realizing this, he finds that he hasn't been abandoned at all.
Of course, it could also be about a guy wanting to fuck a dog in the ass. |

"I'm a prisoner here, but I'm also free" means that he can never leave Portugal, as opium is cheap and (almost) legal there. If he comes back to the states, he won't be able to get any. At least, I'm fairly sure he's in Portugal, although it could just as easily be Tangier. Either way, it truly is a great song. He captured the feeling perfectly. |

It was an old blues tune used in the movie simply because it fit so damn well....In the movie, Eric Clapton plays a priest who ministers to a cult that worships Marilyn Monroe. If you listen to the song, there's no doubt that it's Slow Hand playing and singing. Nobody else has licks like that. Eric may not have written this song, but he pwned it. Awesome song and awesome scene. |
