I think that this song is dealing with Israel. In ancient Israel, God commanded to people through Moses that there weren't to be any idols or any worship of any god other than Him because of all He had done for them. Israel disobeyed repeatedly and God brought up people repeatedly to tear down the idols and bring Israel back to Him. One such man is Gideon. Judges chapter 6:25,26 say:"25 That night the LORD said to him, "Take your father’s bull, and the second bull seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is beside it 26 and build an altar to the LORD your God on the top of the stronghold here, with stones laid in due order." To me this song is from the peoples perspective that after their idols are gone, they still worship someone other than God. |
