| Portishead – Cowboys Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
Well, the line is "talons fly as a last disguise". Talons could represent the American eagle and that after more covert means and propaganda fail, it's time to go to war. Way to much emphasis on 9/11 in this thread: governments have and always will lie; the point of democracy being to blunt the potency of such threats to good governance. With all of that said, it is a great song and does sound like it's about a victim lashing out and taking a day of reckoning against a tormentor, but I am not certain that it is necessarily political in meaning. Why couldn't it be about children taking vengeance against abusive parents for example? |

| Black Sabbath – God Is Dead? Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Seems like its about someone struggling with faith and morality. They want to believe in God: "To safeguard my philosophy Until my dying breath I transfer from reality Into a mental death I empathize with enemes Until the timing’s right With God and Satan at my side From darkness will come light" But find that the world makes that very difficult: "Rivers of evil Run through dying land Swimming in sorrow, they kill, steal, and borrow, there is no tomorrow For the sinners will be damned Ashes to ashes You cannot exhume a soul Who do you trust when corruption and lust, creed of all the unjust, Leaves you empty and unwhole? When will this nightmare be over? Tell me! When can I empty my head? Will someone tell me the answer? Is God really dead? Is God really dead?" |

| Alice in Chains – Lab Monkey Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| It's about a lab monkey; that is if it could write a song. The theme is animal cruelty, taking a nod from Man in the Box. | |
| Down – Bury Me In Smoke Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| These seem like the correct lyrics; and lead me to believe that this song is about a gun-fighter... | |
| Pantera – Cemetery Gates Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"Well I guess You took my youth I gave it all away Like the birth of a New-found joy This love would end in rage And when she died I couldn't cry The pride within my soul You left me incomplete All alone as the Memories now unfold." Seems to me that this song is about the death of his mother: 'birth', 'youth', incomplete' seem to point to this. Whatever the actual interpretation, this is one of the deepest and most emotional songs ever written: Pantera is the most awesome band ever, period. Amazing guitar riffs and solos. RIP Dimebag Darrell: your departure left the world of music and guitar in particular, incomplete. |
