| D-A-D – Black Crickets Lyrics
|
|
I think it's about some kind of message from God, disguised as a plague. At first the presence of the crickets seems like a threat, but it ultimately leads the people to stop feuding and set aside their differences to fight a bigger foe. I'm not sure if it's referencing anything specific, or if it's just a kind of metaphor for good things coming in disguise. Great song anyway, with very thought-provoking lyrics. |

| Fates Warning – Damnation Lyrics

This is such a beautiful song. It's about the toxic effect of big business and globalisation, how all this corporate development has robbed the world of its soul, and how those responsible will one day pay for their crimes against nature. Unlike most songs about this topic, these lyrics aren't pretentious or preachy, but genuine and heartfelt. |

I think this song's just about reflecting on the moments that make life what it is. Or reflecting on life in general perhaps. I'm not sure. Like most Fates Warning songs, the lyrics are both extremely complex and beautifully simplistic at the same time. |

| America – Lady With A Bluebird Lyrics

I think this song is about heroin addiction. Either the lady herself is a metaphor for heroin, or the bluebird is a metaphor for heroin and the song is about a lady who is addicted. |

| Jackson Browne – Redneck Friend Lyrics

No way no how is this song about masturbation - just because Rosie is people assume all his songs are! This song is about a girl from a troubled family, "daddy's in the den shooting up the evening news" is a reference to heroin addiction, and the song's protagonist is offering his assistance in some way. I'm not sure who the 'redneck friend' is - maybe it's a drug reference, or maybe it's an actual person. But no way is it a reference to his penis - nothing about the other lyrics supports that theory. |

I actually think this song is about a marriage or relationship that isn't working out and has become all about sex. Or maybe it's about being in jail. |

I think it's about being in a mental health facility - "sister" is a reference to a nurse. |

Well at face value it's obviously about confined animals, but knowing Therapy there has to be a deeper meaning. |

Yep, this song is definitely about for drug addiction (almost certainly heroin), using romantic love as a metaphor for the addiction. "I've got a little gun here comes oblivion" refers to the needle and the feeling of oblivion that follows. The delivery man is almost certainly a dealer who ODs on his own supply, and the church mouse waiting for the cat to come back is a reference to cravings and 'monkey on the back.' The one part I'm not sure about is the "all good children go to heaven" bit - I don't quite see what this has to do with the rest of the song. It sounds cool though. The Shai Hulud cover is great, I don't think it's quite as good as the original though, but that's just my opinion! |

So does anyone have any theories as to the meaning of this song, or are we all just going to criticise the transcription? The site happens to be songmeanings.net, not criticisethetranscriptionofsongs.net. |

| Tori Amos – Icicle Lyrics

"When they say take from his body I think I'll take from mine instead" is a reference to communion - eating the flesh and drinking the blood of Jesus. She's comparing masturbation over Jesus with the taking of the communion. I'm not sure what the image of the icicle refers to exactly. |

| Van Morrison – Rough God Goes Riding Lyrics

It's obviously about some kind of disaster - I suspect something specific, but I don't know what. But the point of the song is that some people are born into unfortunate circumstances; "rough god" is a metaphor for the downside of luck and fortune. |

| Queensrÿche – Anybody Listening? Lyrics

I think this song is a little more abstract or conceptual than what most people have said. I think it's about how society brainwashes people into believing certain things and consequently into living a certain way and following certain rules which exist only in people's minds. Organised religion and government and the media and all that stuff play a part in all this, but first and foremost it originates from human society, plain and simple. |

I've always thought this song is about depression. Possibly it's a little more detailed than that - maybe depression caused by loss. There seem to be a few references to love in the song, so that could be it, or it could be about realising that you've been lied to, hence the line "think back before you started thinking about the things you were sold on." The second verse is a little more positive and upbeat - I think the second part of the verse: "in love there's no need to worry etc." is another voice, either a different character or a different part of the persona's mind, telling the main persona to hold on. |

| Ramones – Somebody Put Something In My Drink Lyrics

Yes I believe this song is about Johnny getting his drink spiked with acid. Does anyone know what happened to the scumbag who did that? Hopefully he went to jail for life and got put in a cell with a seven-foot psycho with an STD who beat and sodomised him every hour, and that meanwhile a serial killer broke into his family's home and killed the lot of them and filmed it, and sent a copy of the film to the jail where the guards made him watch it while he was getting his back passage hammered. |

I agree with Jlb1987, this is a beautiful and very moving song. I listened to this when my girlfriend and me separated two years ago (we're back together now) but this song helped me through what was an extremely difficult period emotionally. |

| Black Sabbath – Megalomania Lyrics

I think it's about drug addiction of some kind. The protagonist starts off being unhappy with their life and escapes into a world of drug-fuelled fantasy. This initially gives them an incredible sense of power and indestructibility, but soon the drug starts taking over their life and sending them right back into misery. By the end, the protagonist starts fighting the drug and reclaims power by kicking the addiction.
That's just my interpretation. Feel free to disagree! It's a very complex song and could be interpreted a number of other ways. |

It's a song about someone having to leave home and not wanting his dog to follow him. Maybe he is leaving his family who don't care about him, but he knows the dog does, but he doesn't want the dog to follow him because he doesn't know where he's going or how he could protect the dog from the cold elements.
One of the most moving and heart-breaking songs of all-time. |

It is about masturbation, but there's more to it than that. It's about the feeling of loneliness and emptiness that accompanies an act of self-loving after being rejected. I'm sure all the guys out there know what I'm talking about... |

It's just about a great sexual relationship. Like most rock songs from the 80s it's a great song, but not too much depth to the lyrics (which isn't a bad thing, rock music is meant to be fun after all!) |
