@[Epiphany2000:17270] I used to think these were pretty straightforward, and for the most part, they are. Lately I've been wondering about these, though: "He stood all night staring down at the lights of LA Wondering if he could ever go home." That could be the midwestern guy looking at the view and considering going home and back to the slow, small twin life, or it also could mean he's the midwestern guy out on a high ledge thinking about jumping because the fast life has wrecked and ruined him, but he can't imagine living any other way anymore. |

To me, this song means 2 things: The things that a man will do to get that one woman to notice him (building cars, roads to run them on, skyscrapers, etc). The second meaning to me is actually very close to the intended meaning. My mother always wore lemon perfume when I was a child, and to me the scent of that perfume means home and comfort. |

To me this song is a tribute and thank you to the artists that inspire her. In the acoustic version, she includes lyrics from Yes, Kate Bush and David Bowie I still remember the dreams there (Yes; Long Distance Runaround) And if I could, I'd make a deal with God and get him to swap our places (Kate Bush; Running Up That Hill) And there's a Starman waiting in the sky He'd like to come and meet us but he thinks he'd blow our minds (David Bowie; Starman) This song is incredible and the fact that she credits 3 of my other favorite artists in the lyrics fills me with joy. |

I can really relate to your second interpretation (sadly). I was (and still am) in love with a man who died in a motorcycle accident. A few years later I was in a bar that we used to frequent together and I glanced out at the crowd and thought I saw his face, just for a second. When I looked again, of course he was gone. I couldn't tell my friends what I had seen and I spent a few hours after that just walking around, completely dazed. |

As a kid who was bullied (because of a disability) throughout elementary and middle school, this song means a lot to me. My parents and teachers told me meaningless things to either comfort me or make me shut up about it, including "they're just doing because they like you" and "they don't mean it". They sure as hell meant every single thing. Now I am an advocate for others with disabilities and am involved in anti-discrimination work, but I guess I don't mean it either. ;) |

| If you listen to the song closely enough, you will see that it's not "And blind passion", but "And blind compassion", which I think means a lot more in the song as well (I know that other sites have also misprinted the lyrics, so maybe this is a different version). | |

This song terrified me as a kid. I agree with Krendall, it is about fear and eventually facing whatever it is that terrifies us. |

| This song has always reminded me of my best friend, whose father left her mother when she became pregnant. My friend never met her father and the fact that he left her and her mom has effected her profoundly throughout her life. I realize that this may not specifically be what the song is about, but the words seem to match the situation. | |
