Glad to see people thinking about what this means. Even adding and discussing what I had to say about it. I listen to this album a lot and each time I notice more and more the farther I dig down, I hope you all do too. What is so great about this song, and most of their songs in general, is that it really can be interpreted however you want. Something one certainly can't do with most music which has come out recently. What do you guys think "Friday" means? So few artists who I feel put legitimate amounts of time and effort into the work they make millions off of; nice to see at least some still have the ability to make people think. |

This is the most beautiful thing about music. We can all interpret songs and their lyrics however we choose, and no one is right. Is it what the artist intended? Who cares? It's what it made you feel and think about while listening to the album.

If you change the lyrics in "Imagine" to "I love big black dick in my ass" John Lennon is pretty clearly trying to say he wants to have coitus with a large black man, clearly. |

I think Thom Yorke is the sort to always be trying to change the world and rescue drowning Polar Bears with his "I'm-a-musician" superpowers. Seems like he's always trying to get across something profound on a level deeper than his own personal torments. This makes me think he is trying to relate the story of Siddhartha the listener. Perhaps suggesting we should all open out eyes to all the poverty and injustice in the world as he (Siddhartha) did. Once he was enlightened to the idea that everyone is not a fancy Prince who gets to live in a fancy palace, the journey to becoming Buddha began (ie. blooming of the Lotus).
Seems to me like Thom is trying to tell us all about that "empty space in our heart" (from superficial material possessions, like Siddhartha) and to let our own Lotuses (Loti? haha) bloom.
