Mad Caddies – Falling Down Lyrics 13 years ago
At first, I thought it could be about just being depressed over a girl who had left him for some other guy, who "has [her] name and he has [her] number" and the singer is at the bar well past drunk and watching this girl and guy from a distance.

But then when you read, "...the day we met upon a cold December, the day we met and it started to fall..." it sounds more like an addiction.

Either way, great song.

Grateful Dead – Box Of Rain Lyrics 14 years ago
I understand that it has personal meaning to the band members, but I believe the overall message GD was trying to send was how amazing experiencing life is, and how small of an opportunity it is - take risk, and enjoy it. Don't live a sheltered life only to die safely.

Then there's another part about embracing the people you get to meet and cherish the love you share.

The ending resonates inside your mind...

"Believe if you need it, if you don't just pass it on {...] Believe it if you need it, or leave it if you dare..."

And the last lines "Such a long long time to be gone, and a short time to be there," seem rather obvious; you're only here for a very short amount of time, and you're gone forever (think of all the years and lives that have preceded your birth, think of all the years and lives that will succeed your death).

All in all, just another amazing tune from GD.

This song makes me feel content... the song's intro sounds nostalgic to me and makes me think of good times.

Sublime – Same In The End Lyrics 15 years ago
Even though BlackLung's comment was years ago, I'd like to point out that Brad's father didn't beat him. In fact, he was pretty close to his dad and was a huge positive influence on Brad's interest in guitar and music.

His parents got divorced and his mother couldn't handle Brad's "craziness" as he got older so he moved in with his dad.

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the thing about all great bands is that they keep everyone in mind while writing songs. Is this probably a personal experience from within the band that this song is describing? Sure.

All great bands, not Just Pink Floyd, have the ability to depict their own personal experiences throughout life - yet make it vague enough to allow any listener to relate with the lyrics on personal level.

So here is my meaning on this song.

The first verse seems to target someone who is self-righteous and believes that they have the world all figured out, and Pink Floyd questions them with a lot of sarcasm.

[e.g.] "So, you think you can tell Heaven from Hell?" "Blue skies from pain"

- These are two examples of extremes; most people can tell the difference between two things that are so distinct from each other - it's common sense.
--------
The next verse is then meant as a realization... even though it is stated as a question "so, did they get you to trade?" I think the targeted person already took part of the trade and Pink Floyd is reminding them of the fact. The targeted person then realizes all of the mistakes they have made and, for me, the saying "The more I learn, the less I know" really coincides with the entire second verse.
-------
- The last verse then shows pity, sorrow, confusion, false contentment, relation... so many different emotions tied into this last verse.

- "How I wish you were here" - Feeling sorry, pity for targeted person
And then it goes onto say "We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl" - this is where confusion, sorrow and relation comes into it. The person who has been talking this entire time is now showing targeted person that they're going through the same pains and experiences and are just as confused.

So in short, this song provides (for me)

1. Questioning [through sarcasm]
2. Realization [through questioning]
3. Sorrow and false contentment [through realization and relation]

As for all the analogies in this song - that is the vagueness Pink Floyd provides to the listener, this is where everyone comes into thought - not just the man writing the song.

Case in point - a fishbowl can represent so many different things to so many different people, society; a relationship; a broken home; a dead end job.

For me, the fish bowl represents your mind inside of your head, running over the same old ground trying to fix what you feel is wrong with your life and conquering whatever is in your way to make for better change - yet you always find yourself fearing what you've always feared. Nothing has changed.

If you read this, I appreciate it - there is a lot to read here.

Well, there's my two cents.
