Alison Krauss – Simple Love Lyrics 13 years ago
She brings a lot of personal attachment to her songs, this one included. I was very surprised to read this one was written by someone else. Either way it kind of reminds me of "He Walked on Water" by Randy Travis. Reflection on older generation in your family and how simple and awesome their lives were. How they seemed almost like surreal figures in our lives. I had grandparents like this thankfully and can really relate to this song.

Alison Krauss – Away Down the River Lyrics 13 years ago
Sung from the perspective of an aged parent(my perspective, but could be any age parent), close to death, saying goodbye to her child/children. This is a person of faith it seems as they seem to believe in an afterlife, indicating they wont be alone, they will be "waiting with all who have gone before". This believe in afterlife seems to be Christian, as use of "Jordan" seems to indicate.

Alison Krauss – The Scarlet Tide Lyrics 13 years ago
Folk song. Not sure if its something she got from Appalachia, or just wrote it for the movie "Cold Mountain". Either way its pretty straight forward and was about wives/girlfriends/mothers who's sons/fathers/husbands went off to war and the fear of them never coming home, and having to come to grips with that. Really beautiful song, feels old old old, so if she made it for the move she is a genius.

Alison Krauss – Jacob's Dream Lyrics 13 years ago
Probably a folk song then? Sung in the Alleghenies to warn the children not to stray far from home. Yeah i took this song for straight meening, kinda folksy. Kinda neat to know the origin. thanks.

Alison Krauss – You're Just a Country Boy Lyrics 13 years ago
This is one of my favorites. Don Williams version is equally as good, just sung from first person perspective.

Yeah pretty much agree, its a guy who doesn't have a lot to give other than his full love and dedication. I don't think the woman shunned him though, i think she probably had more love for him, than her richer suitor, but he lost the battle because what he had to give wouldn't provide the life she wanted. I say this because he laments so deeply about the kiss and mentions the marriage he would never have, so there seems to have been something real there once. Something that he had and lost, rather than never had at all.

Alison Krauss – I Give You To His Heart Lyrics 13 years ago
Not sure if its obvious, as will all lyrics a lot can be left up to interpretation.

This could be from the perspective of any woman who has had to give up her child for its betterment. A person of faith in a position to where they were unable to give the child everything they need, might realize they were cutting short the child's chances, possibly even to the point of being a detriment to its life. As hard as it might sound, God's call might be for that person to give the baby up, turning their life into his capable hands. This of course could and would be very hard to do, "hell to pay". The river is a metaphor for sending them off, without any expectation of every knowing what became of them.

Nickel Creek – Out of the Woods Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the song is about a someone who is in love with another person who may be questioning things. The Narrator wants them to get past their hesitations, and just be with them, and see how happy they feel they could be together. Its frustrating to the narrator, and causes them to be lost in thought over whether this romantic idea they have for the subject will ever come to fruition. It frustrates the narrator to the point they almost feel it would be better to continue to live the dream of it, than waiting for this person to make it real. I think this is also confirmed by the idea that "I rollercoaster for you" showing the peaks and valleys between frustration and adulation for this person's indecision. Also "time out of mind must be heavenly" seems to make me feel they would love for there to be closure on this so they wouldn't keep going through these highs and lows of emotion. Ultimately they desperately love this person and their love for them is wild an passionate, and as many of us know, this almost always goes hand in hand with some sort of deep frustration if its not returned on the same level.

Nickel Creek – When You Come Back Down Lyrics 15 years ago
This could be about any relationship that may require you to let someone go who isn't ready to be tied down. It could be parents with children that are ready to leave home, or someone that loves another who may not know if they are ready for the commitment. Could also even be interperted as mentioned before as God's relationship with us as his children.

Personally feel its about being a parent and having to let go and yet still be there to support them in everything they do. I feel this because of the allegory of flying, soaring, etc. which are actions of birds or people who travel long distances by plane. Also the reference to giving them their wings, which is what parents do preparing their children to leave the nest, or letting them fly far from home. Also, when a child leaves home they often go their own way and do not keep in good contact with their parents and the parents just wait for them to "come back down" at which time the relationship is much stronger and deeper. In, the meantime the parents do most the keeping in contact, "always holding the line that connects between your sweet heart and mine", and waiting for the call (on the other end waiting for your call) that they need them to help them come pick up the pieces when they fail/crash.

This easily could be seen as God's love and devotion to us as his children as well, because that kind of goes back to the same principle of being a loving parent.

Nickel Creek – Sabra Girl Lyrics 15 years ago
Personally i feel the overall meaning is pretty straight forward but maybe open for slight interpretation.

My take is that its a story of a young man who meets a Jewish girl who is visiting America (I'm assuming). The Narrator has been lonesome for several years, and had committed to the idea that this was his fate, and then he met her. He falls for her very deeply but they are living very different lives headed for different places. They both see the impracticalities of it but he has convinced himself that this is fate, and they can overcome it. She, however, is not convinced and shuns his advances, and while possibly feeling some affection for him, realizes the impossibilities of the relationship. She leaves to go home and tries to softly break it off because she does have some feelings for him, but yet doesn't want to encourage the already mounting hope he has inside him. He tries to keep in contact with her even after she has returned home, and she continues to be pleasant, which he continues to read into as something more. Eventually he convinces himself that if he is just close to her things will work, and goes to be with her. She rejects him, and the rashness of his advances cause her to be straight with him and let him know they will never be more than friends, crushing his hope, and making him feel foolish. He cannot accept the restraints of just being friends so he turns back to his life of loneliness awaiting the slow repair that time brings to his heart.
