Jeff Buckley – Last Goodbye Lyrics 14 years ago
In response to Evais Little Wing up there....you referenced this part of the song where he sings: "You know it makes me so angry because I know that in time, I'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye" --- you went on to opine:

"What's making him angry is that if she does kiss him 'out of consolation' not only will it fool him but it will also make him carry on the relationship. But because he's not sure he wants to be in it..he'll only end it later which will 'only make her cry'. "

I don't necessarily see it as that.

I think what he means is, if she did come back to him, (out of consolation) or out of any reasons that aren't authentic love/ desire, that they would eventually just end up back at the same point again, with her (and both of them, really) being unhappy, and needing to break it off with him again.

Just my opinion.

The Dead Milkmen – The Big Sleazy Lyrics 14 years ago
they forgot the best part of the lyrics in that song! The ending parody of a typical caller to WMMR/ WYSP:

-OK, we've got a call on the request line and who am I speaking to?
-My name's Will Junior.
-And what do you do Will Junior?
-Well, I unclog the toilets at the head shop
-And what can I play for ya?
-Well, how about a block a' the Blahs dude?
-Sorry, just played a block of the Blahs ffor the guys at the sandal
store
-Aw, man, well, how about a block a' Fleettwood Mac?
-Oh, just played a block of Fleetwood Mac for the guys at the granola
factory.
-Oh man...
-But I'll tell ya what, How 'bout if I sennd you a $20,000 gift
certificate from Bob and Jerry's world of wicker?
-Hey that's wicker! Dude, thanks a lot!

Funny thing is, I always interpreted the above as this:

-OK, we've got a call on the request line and who am I speaking to?
-My name's Little Junior (just sounds dumber & more fitting of typical caller for parody).
-And what do you do Little Junior?
-Well, I unclog the toilets at the Pet shop
-And what can I play for ya?
-Well, how about a block of the Boss dude? (nickname for Springsteen, typically played on station)
-Sorry, just played a block of the Boss for the guys at the sandal
store
-Aw, man, well, how about a block a' Fleetwood Mac?
-Oh, just played a block of Fleetwood Mac for the guys at the granola
factory.
-Oh man...
-But I'll tell ya what, How 'bout if I sennd you a $20,000 gift
certificate from Bob and Jerry's world of Liquor?
-Hey that's liquor! Dude, thanks a lot (again, it sounded like "liquor" upon listening and seemed fitting for the typical "drunk" caller for those requests, and seemed to fit the parody)...

Yes – Final Eyes Lyrics 14 years ago
Anyway, I think I read somewhere from Jon Anderson himself that this song was about love won/ love lost/ and love won back again....FWIW...

Hey ears...a little harsh???

Hey, I agree that the song is probably not about suicide/ best friend saving person from that, etc, but sheesh, give that guy a break, huh?....thats what makes music so great - the songs can be interpreted in many different meanings, doesn't necessarily have to be just ONE take on the lyrics. I know many songs that can & are interpreted in many different meanings by the listeners. I hope you don't have any kids...I can't imagine what happens when one of them leaves the cap off the toothpaste.

Phish – Fast Enough For You Lyrics 15 years ago
A lot of times, song meanings can differentiate pending the interpretation of the listener. In this particular song, I don't think its a question of the relationship not moving fast enough for the other party, as in a "simplistic, literal sense" (i.e. consumation), but I do sense that the narrator is in a troubled relationship - whereas the (woman) in the lyrics has a restless heart and wants more out of the relationship/ or life, than the narrator is able to give. It seems that the narrator is very much unconditionally in love with the woman, yet for whatever reasons, the relationship is in disconnect, at least from her side - but then later he finally, begrudgingly is able to see it too (i.e. the "stumbled into view" lyric).

Just my take on it.
