Josh Groban – February Song Lyrics 15 years ago
Phreakyphan and Carrie elfin689 you have hit on the truth, but it is not the whole truth, Carrie you had the great advantage of the live interview. But as interviews go, they are made for television or radio. Controlled revelation. It's reveling but not all, yet quite simple is the answer. This song is more than what is about Mr. Groban. Still it is intimately about him.
Josh Groban is somewhat of a visionary, ushered into stardom that he was not seeking it, as a replacement for an Opera singer who had become ill. February song takes us back there to the time he was not a star but a gifted young man available for discovery. Josh being born on February 27 as Joshua Winslow Groban, is aware of some of his giftedness which has also has opened his eyes to the world through different lenses than many of us, but it's a pure, simply free, unobstructed, uncommited, time in his life.
Then years later in his career as Carrie elfin689 points out, a relationship that has ended is not just a personal one but a worldwide relationship as well. The personal affected the public. It goes deep deep into the longings of man with his purpose, his relationships, and himself. This is not just about his past but his future and the search for it. Josh is inviting you to come with him in this search in his heart: "Where has that old friend gone - Lost in a February song" This is Josh's call to you his listener.
"Tell him it won't be long - 'Till he opens his eyes - Opens his eyes" In this seemingly out of place line, reveals the depth to which he was longing with emotional investment that he will find that lost treasure of simply being himself before the loss. It is so gripping that he is asking you the listener to tell him, tell him it will not be long, because some of you he has met along the way in his travels he has seen the devestated with consolation and many needing it. It is also his need as you gently enter with him in this search, to hear the lost confidence to come from someone else, as a friend offering warmth in the cold of February. Hope is a part of Josh's life, and the open eye is the one he sees as projected in time, the reality of receiving the treasure, just as he has given the hope apparently.
Truely this is an ingeneous song.
"Where is that simple day - Before colors broke into shades - And how did I ever fade - Into this life - Into this life." As I said in a way before, there is a conection he makes with the simple life he had before and the broken and sinking one he feels he is in at this moment in time. But it is much more than that. It is about all of you who he shares with. "Into this life" is our que to look at this life. He does not want you to hurt like he hurts but we all have our triggers that cause our own slipping in relationship and in the beating hearts will stop. This is the place where forgiveness is needed to be confirmed before it is too late.
"And I never want to let you down - Forgive me if I slip away - And all that I've known is lost and found - I promise you I - I'll come back to you one day"
Now the person is reminded that the end is not forever an end, but can be and will be prophetically recommited, it's a promise. But the journey is not a stopping of life. The colours of life return with the next morning that comes with portions you realize was enough to begin with. That simple day where all that you need to love is in front of your eyes. What a crazy world we live in and we paritcipate in it and repeat these phrases in phases.
Where has that old friend gone
