I adore the Decemberists as much as the next man ,and the extensive interpretation here is truly breathtaking but it really should be pointed out that the whole album is just that, an interpretation of an old trad. celtic song 'The Drowned Lovers'. The song can be heared by many artists but i like the Nic Jones version personally. This is in no way to put down the work of Mr. Meloy,whose music i truly adore all the way back to 'Castaways' and beyond, in fact to imagine that someone can listen to one old folk tune and think 'i think i could do something with that...'! 'The Hazards Of Love' is second only to 'Crane Wife' amongst The Decemberists great albums in my humble opinion. |
