I agree with jwolf2 on this one! He is pretty much addressing this "thing" as in his inner demons! He does suffer from anxiety, stress, has a lot of phobias that have quite a tight grip on him and also he had a drinking problem - he has been sober since beginning of 2007. So in this song he is talking about how all those things drag him down and make him feel bad and how they are constantly present, sort of like lurking around even though he is trying his best to move forward. |

I agree with TheConstant815 because for the biggest part of the song i connect it to Ben's drinking addiction! Most of it really makes perfect sense! And he himself have said that he likes to make the lyrics as vague as he can (which he does so perfectly) so it's usually hard to find the meaning behind every line in his songs. |
