I was always under the impression this song had been written from the perspective of a drug addict. By saying "but apparently I've been framed, by a memory that won't help me when it's happening" Perhaps Raine was under an influence of a drug of some sort, and made a relationship mistake (be it cheating on a girlfriend, or somehow hurting a friend). When he was "caught", he got in much trouble, and he's become very apologetic for it. By saying he's been "framed", Raine could possibly mean he's been framed by himself, the version of Raine who is on drugs. He's "standing in the middle of yesterday" perhaps because he still feels terrible for this mistake, even if the other person has forgiven and forgotten. I thought this song was an apology, to show just how sorry he was. Of course, just my interpretation. |

Knowing the true meaning behind this song makes it that much more meaningful to me. It gives new life to the line, "I can see the thief that lives inside of your head" A tumor stealing her life from her. Truly inspirational. |

My interpretation of this song, is that it's about a boy. He was with a girl, or possibly a friend, who would treat him badly, and drag him down, but he's realized he's better than this, and deserves better, so he "opens up his eyes" and says "goodbye". When Raine sings; "I'm sorry, I can't lie I'm wasting too much time, Drowning, I've been blind" It puts me under the impression that he would lie to whomever, prior to his realization, and he would go along with what they said, in fear of losing a friend, or lover. When he states he's been wasting too much time, it's him coming to the realization that this relationship is a waste of his time, and will only male him worse, rather than better. In saying he was drowning, Raine is basically saying the relationship was drowning him. This is my impression of it, at least. |
