| Philip Glass – Knee Play 5 Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| @[AxelWheeler:5548] You see, it's like this. There was a gasoline shortage and there were long lines for gas. So, some gasoline. Shortest line of all. HTH. | |
| Def Leppard – Rock Of Ages Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Gunter gleiben glauchen globen is one of my all time favorite count-ins! Right alongsind John Bonham's "We've done four already and now we're steady and then they went one two three four" from Led Zeppelin's The Ocean and Marc Bolan's "One and a two and a bobbaly bobbaly boo boo yeah!" from Baby Strange by T. Rex from The Slider. The best of all would have to be John Lennon counting The Beatles in by saying "Sugar plum fairy sugar plum fairy" in A Day In The Life. As for I got the fever and there's no cure, there is actually. More Cowbell! | |
| The Doors – Mack the Knife Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I have NEVER heard The Doors perform this song, but the lyrics as transcribed here look like the way Jim would sing it. They're white, white, white, yeah. The original is Die Moritat von Mackie Messer from The Threepenny Opera as per octopuseyes. By Kurt Weill with lyrics by Bertolt Brecht. |

And when it rain the rain comes down.... Compare Travis Bickle's line about one day a real rain will come down and wash everything clean, or something to that effect. |

| Jethro Tull – Pibroch (Cap In Hand) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
It's really unfair to judge a song by the football team of the person who posted the lyrics. Anyway, I live in New Jersey, where the NY Giants play in East Rutherford. We had four Superbowl wins and we have Eli Manning. And the song is a classic! Especially that guitar part you mentioned. From Wikipedia: The New York Giants won Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots with a score of 21—17. The winning touchdown was preceded by a spectacular 38 yard reception by receiver Mario Manningham. As in Super Bowl XLII, Eli Manning was Super Bowl MVP, defeating Tom Brady for a second time in the Super Bowl. |

| Alice Cooper – I Never Wrote Those Songs Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| The exact opposite of I Write The Songs by Barry Manilow! Alice Cooper sings I Never Wrote Thos Songs which he co-wrote, and Barry Manilow sings I Write The Songs which he did NOT write. Ummm....ok. :þ | |
| King Crimson – Cage Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| It's actually kinda, sorta Thela Hun Ginjeet Part 3. With Part 2 being Neurotica. | |
| King Crimson – Neurotica Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Another song comparing the city to the jungle (also see Thela Hun Ginjeet). I heart the stream-of-consciousness lyrics, especially the hammerhead hand in hand with the mandrill! | |
| Kate Bush – 50 Words for Snow Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I'll try to use as many of these as possible this winter! Does anyone remember all that faloop'njoompoola we had in October? Erm yeah all the kids trick-or-treating in the shnamistoflopp'n. You had to get out your psychohail shovels early! But you could still make a creaky-creaky man. | |
| Queen – Now I'm Here Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It's actually Princess Peach, and she was not introduced until 1985, and this album was released in 1974. | |
| Perry Farrell – Happy Birthday Jubilee Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| A Birthday Jubilee is much more awesome than a party! Also note that the words "song yet to be sung" -- and the song Song Yet To Be Sung mentions the jubilee! Queen did that same thing with Fat Bottom Girls and Bicycle Race. | |
| Black Oak Arkansas – Jim Dandy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| James L. Jim "Dandy" Mangrum rescued a lot of people, which is one reason why this band is so popular. You do NOT hear about lots of other lead singers of bands going around rescuing people, like Freddie Mercury To The Rescue, or Jimi Hendrix. Of course there's also the Rolling Stones with Mick coming to your Emotional Rescue! | |
| The Rolling Stones – Wild Horses Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| For fans of Stargate SG-1 the song is actually called Untrained Equines. Thanks to Teal'c! | |
| Liz Phair – Dance Of The Seven Veils Lyrics | 14 years ago |

From Wikipedia: Sydney Biddle Barrows (born January 14, 1952) is an American businesswoman who became known as an escort-service owner while using the stage name Sheila Devin and later became known as the Mayflower Madam. She has since become a management consultant and writer. Mayflower, Pilgrim.... awesomeness. |

| Kraftwerk – The Robots Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Kraftwerk are the robots! There are NOT a lot of other robot bands after them! Once you get beyond DEVO, it's all over. | |
| Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band – Orange Claw Hammer Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Painless Parker at Wikipedia: Edgar R.R. "Painless" Parker (1871-1951) was a flamboyant street dentist and huckster. He attended Philadelphia Dental College which would become Temple University dental school, and began his practice as a street dentist in New York City. He went on to manage a combination traveling circus/dental clinic, promoting "painless dentistry". At one point he claimed to have pulled 357 teeth in one day, which he strung on a necklace. He legally changed his first name to "Painless", when he was accused of breaking a false advertisement law by claiming that his dentistry was truly painless. In the end, Parker ran about 30 West Coast dental offices, employing over 70 dentists, and grossing $3 million per year. Parker is mentioned in the song 'Orange Claw Hammer', by musician and poet Don Van Vliet. |

| Lou Reed – Metal Machine Music, Pt. 1 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Technically, it is not as ironic as you think it is. The website is called SONG MEANINGS! Not just lyrics, so you can discuss what the song MEANS to you! Anyway, I actually found that version you mentioned, it's on YouTube! Thanks for mentioning it. I did NOT think anyone would think to do a version of MMM for traditional instruments but they did! THere's also a DJ who would read every day from Ulysses by James Joyce, using MMM as background music. It's nice to know that radio signals broadcast from Earth are broadcast all over the galaxy. Kinda gives me the warm fuzzies that the MMM/Ulysses broadcasts are still being broadcast throughout the galaxy. |

Bluestruck is actually really close. I really do NOT know French and the only words I could actually translate myself would be oranges and chocolate. This is from Google Translate: French to English translation I took two orange juices, I was thirsty Help me, I need a man. Or do you live? Where? May be the end of the century you love me, I want to play (in live she sings "I can play) Play, play, play, play, Play, play, play. I made three loaves of bread, chocolate I was not hungry, How much for your body? Come on, push, Push, push, push, push, Push, push, push yeah |
