| She & Him – Magic Trick (M. Ward cover) Lyrics

I've actually heard him play it on a radio station, before the record(post-war) and he sang it that way, I think that's something he enjoys doing; living his own lyrics open for interpretation, so he never gets tired of them, I suppose...although I don't see how he possibly could. |

I don't think the song is necessarily about any genre of music at all, but holding on to something that you may have indeed needed and loved when younger, but as you grow older you have to let it go or you can't grow up. That's my interpretation anyway... |

| My Morning Jacket – Highly Suspicious Lyrics

I heard an interview where Jim was talking about the negative reaction to Evil Urges, and that you have to let it smooth itself out and it will, I think this song more then anything takes a few listens to smooth itself out. He also mentioned his grandma used to make peanut butter pudding surprise and he digged it so much he just wanted to give her a shout out.
I was pretty indifferent to this song until I saw them play it live, and let me just say it's FUCKIING AMAAZING, especially stoned.
Definitely about drugs, and although not MMJ's usual style I think you have to accept that they don't really have a style, that's what's so great about them; that they can be anything they want to be and that's what makes them so fucking greaaaat :D |

| M. Ward – Carolina Lyrics

He's actually not from Washington, he's from Ventura County, California but I don't think any of the states are actual references, just metaphors like North and South Carolina he just means he's splitting himself in two. But just a side note he said he didn't like Chicago because it was too far from his family and such. |

| M. Ward – I'll Be Yr Bird Lyrics

I think the bird imagery has to do with Bright Eyes' reference to the yellow bird, not that it's the same, but I think the meaning and symbolism are the same.
In "We are Nowhere and it's Now" he talks about the man being an alcoholic and forgetting his yellow bird.
Then in "Poison Oak" he talks about being rescued and he says "you're the yellow bird that I've been waiting for"
So I think the bird and the yellow bird mean somewhat the same thing; that's how I think of it anyway. |
