i like that interpretation. i always liked this song but felt bad singing about wanting to forget problems by drinking all the time lol. plus i don't like beer that much lol. but i think it described life from his perspective as he ended up turning to alcohol and drugs which is sad, but a reality for many people.
i think the part about the girl is significant too. "you'll be gone before too long," and "when you lie it just don't show, but I know which way the wind blows" - he is trying to be fulfilled by a relationship/sex, but she doesn't fulfill him - so he has to turn to beer, which will always be there as a temporary fix - "the answer's always waiting at the liquor store." I think it's a very well written song. |

all of them are, i think 40 oz to freedom might be their best, but robbin the hood comes in a very close 2nd...i haven't listened to second hand smoke in awhile but i know some of the songs on their are great, get out is one of my favorites. the sublime self-titled album is good but in my opinion a little more generic than the other music. i love all their music though, hope this helps. |

I'll add one :) I always thought this was a great song too but never thought about the lyrics. Luckily it's an encouraging song for going through a break-up which I'm going through right now. I feel bad that he didn't love me as much as I wanted him to, but no reason to feel bad, obviously he just didn't deserve someone like me cuz I had so much to give him. So I won't "go for second best." If he misses me, he'll be back on his knees, otherwise, forget him...it's funny how music can have the message you need sometimes. |
