Annnd, I definately think this song has at least two levels. The first is simple. Seize the day! Carpe diem! Don't spend too much time dwelling on "what-ifs." Live with a purpose. Don't just drift through life. The second level is childhood. This song seems like it's being looked at through a child's eyes. I'm 19, almost 20. I'm sad to say that my generation was probably one of the last to really play outside. It seemed like when I was about 8 or 9, video game madness struck. I was one of the losers with parents who didn't get us every new thing that came out. At the time it frustrated me, but now I'm forever grateful and plan on doing the same thing with my future kids. Outside, I grew imagination. I had adventures, with the scars to prove it. My friends (with similar thinking parents) and I would spend hours on end coming up with games and ideas. Dave is viewing life like a kid. That is, full of wonder and honesty. When you're a kid, the world is big and mysterious and above all, magical. Dave is saying that as adults, we should try and think like a kid. Not jaded and bored, but with curiousity and awe. |

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" -Matthew 6:25-34 This song always brings these verses to mind for me :) I know people get annoyed when comments get too Biblical, but I just wanted to share this. |

It was. There was a slower somber version of it then a more upbeat version for Busted Stuff. I prefer the Busted Stuff version personally. And I agree with you. Such a beautiful song so wonderfully written. |

This song is so beautiful. I've loved it for 7 ish years, but have only recently really personally understood it. When it clicked, it moved me to tears. It's definately spiritual. No way arround that. I think it's about redemption and God's grace. Wine is used Biblically to mean a multitude of things including the blood of Christ, the Holy Spirit, and blessings from the Lord. However it also refers to sin, temptation, and excessive living. I agree with the suicide outlook. Dave is know for his substance problem, and it tortures him. The wine that's drinking him is his addiction, and a desire to end it all. That's the vine that hung Judas. He committed suicide after betraying Jesus. Dave is begging God to take these feelings away and give him the wine that brought Jesus back after three days. This would be the Holy Spirit and the love of God. What's so truly amazing is that, while pleading on his knees with God, Dave is simultaneously praising Him. He's not blaming God for his problems. He's humbling himself and earestly asking for forgiveness. It's so, so beautiful. |
