I think this is a song about religion, and when a loved one turns away from faith, but it could also be about suicide (a mortal sin in Catholics)
"It got so lonely when you turned away" could mean that one misses someone who turned away from faith, and the "I will never die, never die like you" can mean that the 'lost' friend won't go to heaven and have eternal life, like she will because he denied God. |
