Lykke Li on the song: “I wrote that one quite late at night, in one go actually, I feel like I’ve been simmering that feeling for a long time that you are in this kind of destructive relationship or affair whatever you would call it, a meeting; and you know that it’s never ever gonna work out but you keep on hoping but then you realize that, you know, this is life so you might as well dance while you can, ya know? Cuz it all it’s all gonna burn up anyway.” |

I belive this song is about moving on from your sorrow or maybe just the past. Like the sentence says: "It's always darkest before the dawn" Before the suns comes up and gives your life light it may be or has been the darkest. |

I got it from something she said herself: “I wrote that one quite late at night, in one go actually, I feel like I’ve been simmering that feeling for a long time that you are in this kind of destructive relationship or affair whatever you would call it, a meeting; and you know that it’s never ever gonna work out but you keep on hoping but then you realize that, you know, this is life so you might as well dance while you can, ya know? I believe this song is about doing something you know will have fatal consequences and though you are fully aware of these, you are still participating, cause you might as well live while you do it while you can. Might as well dance while you can. You know it is going to end someday - that destructive relationship, but why just be in it while you can? |

So after reading a lot of the comments here, I thought I would give my interpretation of the song. I think this song is about her cheating on her boyfriend now talking to her lover. If you give it a minute it's gone/ she and her love do not have much time If you give it a minute it's wrong/ it's wrong what they are doing If we're just waiting a second too long/ If they are waiting a second too long they may get caught or something Darling I'll leave and you won't come along/ She's leaving and he's not coming with her, since he's only her lover So give me the reason to stay Give me the reason to wait/ She needs a reason to stay with the guy (the lover) You know I don't look to get caught/ she don't want to get caught 'Cause darling we're here but my true love is not/ he's just her lover, her true love is not here I'm breaking it up, before it's on Breaking it up, it's already gone/ breaking the affair up before her relationship is gone Breaking it up, I didn't mean to fraud/ she didn't mean to cheat Breaking it up I let you think that I'm yours when I'm not / she belongs to someone else though she told him or maybe gave him (the lover) the intuition that she was his. Keep you here though I'm ready to drop the last line/ Still playing with him, though she's thinking about "breaking it up" and and and.... this is just my interpretation of it. could be the other ones as well. |

To me this song could as well be about being the other woman. How "Artificially sweet" it all was to begin with and how she nothing in return got - of course for the reason that he already had another. It seems like this song is about trying to break free without any luck. Being down on your knees only wishing that the pain, anger and frustration would go away. Even though she tries to go away she keep going right back to one thing that she need to walk away from (to quote to song). How bad this relationship is for her and how she really need to get out of this addiction. ("addicted to your allure") Of course this is just my interpretation of this amazing song. |
